SHAPPY'S ONLINE DIARY:

Monday, January 29, 2007

Hard to believe we are almost done with January! Sorry, I lied about updating sooner. Seems like once a week is all can muster up these days. I'm so not a computer nerd. I took typing classes in high school for crissakes! Still, the two snoos forged ahead with another poetry fueled week! The reading in Tarrytown went well! We got a ride from Rich Villar and Tara Betts and took the train back. I even got asked to read a lil' something! Tuesday's Urbana went well. Wednesday ran errands and visited with Cristin's pal Kimmy and his gal Annie who brought birthday cake! Thursday got lectured by my managers and jazz, jazz and jazz! Friday was super busy! It was 3rd Party's last monthly show at the BPC so they pulled out all the stops! Anne from Magic Hat gave me an awesome sweatshirt and tipped us out really nicely! It was one of those shifts where there was never a point when someone didn't want something which is great for tips but not so great to chat with folks at the bar. Seemed like a lot of swell folks were there and I didn't get to say hello to all of you! Sorry! The NYC Howl closed out the night. I had to get to Philly by rail the next day to meet Cristin at Ed & Jeannie's place. It was great to catch up and eat cheesesteaks. The next day we went to a memorial service for Cristin's friend Kim's brother who passed away over the MLK holiday weekend. It was really an informal get together than a service. Lots of pictures and friends and family and food. He died pretty young so it was really hard for Cristin and me even though I only met him once or twice. It's rough. We just made our train back to the city and much to our surprize there was Cait and Leo getting back from Kevin's birthday party. By the time we got home we were both pretty wiped out emotionally and physically. My knee started hurting. I hope it's because of the walking we did and not gout although it can flare up when the temperature drops. Cristin felt like she was coming down with a cold so she called in sick to work to nip it in the bud. She seems better now and I've got a heat pad on my knee. We've got Gayle Danley at Urbana tomorrow and Cristin and I get to cat-sit this weekend so that's cool.

Kevin Smith talks up FANBOYS!!!

He and Mewes have a cameo in the adventure-comedy, Fanboys "I've watched half of it; it's a rather sweet movie. I haven't watched the other half of it; I watched my half up until my part, 'cause we were doing that little scene, and I wanted to throw some stuff together for it. And I was like, 'So what's the movie about?' My part wasn't in it yet, but I turned it off where my part would be. 'Cause [producer Scott] Mosier's like, 'We're still in the midst of cutting it; watch the finished version,' and what not. But I like it, I think it's a really sweet movie, and right up my f**kin' alley; so I'm kind of programmed to kind of dig it. That dude, Dan Fogler in the movie's really funny, the chick from 'Veronica Mars,' who I absolutely love... [Kristen Bell]... she's in it, and she's really good. That dude who plays Windows in the movie is the guy from 'Million Dollar Baby'... [Jay Baruchel]... he's in the movie and he's really pimp, and really funny."

Sorry to leave the last entry up for so long without telling you how the IWPS qualifier turned out! First of all we had a HUGE turn-out which is always good because all of the door money goes to the winner to travel to the tournament in Vancouver. We had Mike Mc Gee and Robbie Q in the house warming up the crowd and helping Cristin with scores and stuff! I competed with ALL NEW POEMS which made me feel really good. Cristin tells me if I hadn't gone under time(!) in the 3 minute round I would've won the whole thing! Oh well! Our winner was Nicole Homer which is very awesome on many levels! She will be our Urbana booster in the Great White North!

I ended up hosting the Urban Hee Haw at the BPC on that Thursday night. The gal playing Minnie Pearl got sick! CLub was busy on Friday and me and Cristin pretty much slept all Saturday! Sunday I had a bunch of meetings to make sure the BPC kicks ass in 2007. Monday I forced Cristin to go to an all-you-can-eat Chinese Buffet! Tuesday we had Panama Soweto and Ken Arkind from the 2006 National Championship Team Denver! I got to hang with Beau and Sweet D and a bunch of the staff later that night. Wednesday we had four courses of snacks for dinner! Thursday me and Cristin performed in a big show Beau Sia put together called INVOCATION. It was a really awesome show and it was nice to have a huge drinking crowd for a POETRY show at the Bowery POETRY Club! Friday I was still worn out from the night before but I soldiered on because I was detirmined to make some spending money for the Big Apple Con that I attended today! Cristin's brother Kevin was in town to see a play and they hung out in the morning/early afternoon while I slept. We all had brunch together and Kevin actually came in to the convention for a bit while he waited for his train. I got to introduce him to Blackwolf the Wizard! I got the new Yogi Bear, Captain Caveman and Magilla Gorilla McFarlane action figures, a cool Bring on the Bad Guys t-shirt, a book of Jack Cole comics, a 2-disc DVD set with everything Shatner has ever done on television, a bunch of old commercials on VHS, and some pretty good dollar books from the 70's. I got home and we went to the store to get fixins for a spaghetti dinner.

Tommorrow we are heading to Sleppy Hollow to celebrate Patricia Smith's new book! Cristin's in the show. I'll try to let you know how that turns out sooner than it took me to post this update!

First things first-I'll be competing in the Individual World Poetry Slam Qualifier TOMORROW NIGHT at the BPC! Cristin is hosting and current IWPS Champ Mike McGee and my Nerd Slam co-host Robbie Q will be in the house! All the info you need is on my UPCOMING SHOWS page! If you e-mail me I can get you on my half-price list! It's going to be a great night of poetry!

Secondly, how are you? How were your holidays? Shaptowicz hit the road this year and spent Christmas with my folks in Florida and New Year's in Colombus with Cal, Kate, Luke, Taylor and special guest stars Ernie and Susan!

I worked alsmost every night until Christmas Eve. Cristin and I exchanged gifts on Christmas Eve Day. I got Cristin some Dog Whisperer DVD's, an overweight stuffed doxie we named Chicago, a maroon winter's cap and Christmas socks, a book of dog poetry and a necklace that she is very fond of. She got me a mechanical doxie and a personalized hoodie that says "Uncle Shappy" on the front and has the word "nerd" in small letters under the hood! I've pretty much been wearing it every day since I got it!

We flew out to Florida that night on JetBlue and met John and Brenda at the Tampa airport. Christmas morning we had Mom's breakfeast cassarole and opened lots of presents! Cristin plotzed when she saw her pile of presents! We both got lots of new clothes, writing supplies, kitchen stuff and stocking stuffers! We gave my dad a book of the history of Pennsylvania and some Eagles fuzzy dice and coasters and my Mom some scrap-booking stuff and a book of Mary Englebright's artwork. We had a big turkey dinner with all the trimmings and played Mexican Train Dominoes late into the night! We had nice relaxing couple o' days hitting the thrift stores and flea markets and converting my dad into a Ceasar Milan fan! We joined my mom's trivia team and ended up tying for second place. We ended up needing another suitcase for all the stuff we gathered! Thanks for a great time, Ma and Pa Seasholtz!

We then headed to Ohio to see the rest of the Seasholtz clan! We got in on Thursday night and ordered pizza and opened up more presents! My bro, Cal, got me the Star Trek Animated series DVD box set and an awesome cartoon jigsaw puzzle of my hometown, Kettering, OH with the father of our godfather Dick Hartman smack dab in the middle of it! He was afraid I'd already seen it on eBay! We got Luke some Hot Wheels track and some X-Box games that he immediately ran off and started playing! The boy loves Spider-Man and Star Wars! I'm a proud nerd uncle! We got Taylor a stuffed Wilbur pig and a fuzzy puppy that she eventually warmed up to much to Aunt Cristin's relief! We brought lots of Eagles gear for Cal and Kate and got a lot of nice clothes and stuff from them including a sweater vest I left there from our last visit! We ate at Big Boy's and hit the local mall and Costco the next day and had a delicious pork loin supper. The next day Cal and Kate had a pre-New Year's Eve party and we were joined by Susan and Ernie! I coached Luke and his pal Logan on the Nintendo DS Star Wars Lego game and was declared a genius by Logan! We went for one last Big Boy fix with Ernie and Susan and then saw Night at the Museum while the family napped and watched the Eagles game. That night we all went to Dave and Buster's to ring in the new year with video games and trivia! I won dolls for everybody! We flew out New Year's Day and came home and collasped!

Me and Cristin have been working and catching up on stuff since we got back. We had Saturday off to chill and enjoy some of the movies Ernie gave us and yesterday we had brunch with Cristin's folks who brought over our Christmas presents, two HUGE picture frames that are the kind where you can put in lots of pictures and lots of stocking goodies including a new, much-needed wallet for me! Thanks Bruce and Maureen! Cristin and I are both writing a lot. I hope to have all new poems for the slam tomorrow! Come out and see us if you can!
