SHAPPY'S ONLINE DIARY:

2006- a look back in the year of Shap!

It's hard to believe that another year has come and gone, and yet, I still remain one of the most awesome-est human beings ever to exsist! Am I right? Damn straight! Here's a look at what I had goin' on in 06!

-The Bowery Bartender's Big Book of Poems finally arrived in late '05.

-Got to visit my folks in Florida!

-I got to represent Urbana at the Individual World Poetry Slam in Charlotte, NC despite the fact that I fucked up my flights both heading in AND heading out! (Thanks for the ride R.A.C.!) I ended up ranking 64th best poet IN THE WORLD!!! Cristin flies out and hosts finals which my pal Mike McGee wins in an upset!! Also, Tod Caviness and I found the local comic shop and it was AWESOME!

-The GameTap video spots I shot with Tod, Cristin and Ernie started showing up on-line and at video game trade shows! You can see them on my video page!

-I got flown out to Vermont for Magic Hat's Mardi Gras party with Moonshine and had a great time!

-I became the Urbana Slam-Master and got to vote on important slam issues at the Slam-Master meeting in Austin, TX. Got to see Slam Planet at the Alamo Drafthouse with all my fellow slammers! Not only did I get to see Mike Henry's cinematic baby, he and Sonya decided to have a REAL BABY! Welcome to Slam Planet, Cavanaugh!

-I did some voice over stuff for my pal Morgan Taylor and his creation Gustafer Yellowgold! You can see/hear it on Gustafer's Myspace page!

-Thanks to Ernie Cline I now have my own tricked out PC in the Man Den! Thanks to Lucky Dave for saving my hard drive!

-I set up a myspace page and I got 2 videos on YouTube!

-Congrats to Taylor and Marie Elizabeth and Caitlin and Leo for having lovely weddings and for both couples getting in the NY TIMES wedding section!

-Congrats to Kevin and Katie for getting the new house and that bun in the oven!

-I got to write a fake movie pitch for a play that Susan Rice wrote! Cat-sitting kismet!

-Cristin and I pulled off several sucessful double-date Wednesdays over the summer and plan on doing it next summer as well!

-Not only win another O'Debbie Award this year, I also got mentioned in the Village Voice because of it!

-We survived the blackout despite wires melting across the street from us!

-Pulled off another year of managing the bar at the BPC. We have a great staff and I not only enjoy working with them, I enjoy performing with them and hanging out with them!

-Cristin and I got to go to Christie's Auction House and see all of the costumes, props and set pieces from the gigantic Star Trek auction! Not only did we get to feel up the costumes and touch the control panels and beam things up and ogle all of the ships and weaponry, we got to see Micheal Okuda describe all of the stuff to non-nerd reporters! It was pretty awesome.

-I had the pleasure of attending a great National Poetry Slam with a great team of poets (Jeananne, Akua, Sarah Kay & Jaimie Kilstien) The team was ranked 10th going into semi-finals. Our rookie, Jamie took fifth overall in indie finals! I had a great time with Leticia from the BPC who released a book and CD this year! We got the TATTLER back up and running and the NERD SLAM was the MOST ATTENDED DAY EVENT of the ENTIRE NPS!!! It's only get better! Me and Robbie Q are hoping to get a Nerd Poetry Anthology together! Yay, nerds!!

-Speaking of nerds, the nerdy highlight of the year was getting to be a featured extra in Ernie Cline's cinematic opus-FANBOYS!!! I got to meet William Shatner! I am in a scene with CAPTAIN FRIGGIN'KIRK!!! Seth Rogen plays me!!! It's going to be so exciting when it hits the big screen!! I also got inducted to the Mos Alba Fighting 501st! I'd go into more detail but that will all start happening all throughout 2007!
It just blows my mind that my pal Ernie wrote a screenplay and it's in the can with all the bells andf whistles and that we all got to be IN the movie! It's really beyond belief!

-Of course, the best news of all is that Shaptowicz celebrated SIX YEARS together as America's favorite poetry power couple! Watch out next year for THE SEVEN-YEAR ITCH TOUR coming to a poetry venue near you next fall!!!

Hope everybody has a happy holiday! See you in 2007!

Hope everybody had a nice Thanksgiving! Me and Cristin went to Kevin and Katie's new house for the holiday. Cait and Leo also joined us. We got in on the late side on Wednesday night and ordered pizza and cheese steaks just like all good Americans do on the night before Thanksgiving! We hit the sack after learning the 5 S's on how to quiet a noisy baby. (Katie is preggers with a boy!). We all pitched in and helped prep the meal. At noon me and Cristin headed upstairs to watch the dog show and eat queso! Ingrid and Jessie joined us and we had a great meal with all the trimmings! Thanks for getting a turkey this year, guys! I think I ate most of the bird myself! The next day we had eggs and scrapple and Kev gave us a ride to our newly arrived to Philly pals Ed and Jeannie's new house. They had just moved in when we last visited so it was cool to see the place all set up and looking good. They seem pretty happy in the new digs. They even got a big fence up in the backyard! Good fences make good neighbors! We met up with Kim to go to Cristin's 10 year H.S. reunion. It made feel nice and old when I realized my 20 year is coming up next year! I never did my 10 year mainly because I don't think I was invited and I didn't have a e-mail address either! Anyway, I hit the open bar and got a free meal out of the deal so it was all good watching all of Cristin's nerdy pals catch up. The next day we went out for a kick-ass brunch with Ed and Jeannie and Jeannie's sister. We were in the Little Italy section of Philly and found some stuff in the open-air market. I had these amazing pumpkin pancakes with bananas and strawberries and nilla wafers crumbled on top with almond butter and syrup! I then had to haul ass to catch the Chinatown bus which got me to NYC in 2&1/2 hours for $10!!! I then dragged my stuff to the BPC and worked. Sunday (Cristin's Birthday!)the two snoos caught up on much needed sleep and ate at Neptune's. The guys brought out a big piece of chocolate cake for Cristin's b-day! I got my gal a broach and we watched the Dog Whisperer and did whatever she wanted to do! Our pal Buddy Wakefield showed up to drop off some stuff. He had gig's at Bar 13 and Urbana this week. I worked again on Monday and Tuesday we had Buddy feature at Urbana. I had a hoot hosting. Wednesday I got a buncha errands done and made a big spaghetti dinner. We finally got around to watching Inside Man which had 2 slam poets in it! Carlos Gomez and Lemon! The movie was one of the best I've seen all year! I worked Thursday and had a rare Friday off cause I traded with Moonie so he could stay in VT a couple extra days. I had a steak for the first time in a long time! It was so good! Today we went out for a stroll around Astoria and went to Lutheran Church Craft Sale! It was awesome! Cristin found a bunch of sweaters for 50 cents! I bought some old VHS tapes and a homemade cupcake! We tried to go to the movies but there was nothing playing that we wanted to see so we ate at Uno's Pizza and came home to watch movies and get some X-mas stuff together.

Also, be sure to check out the Clerks 2 DVD it has the FANBOYS TRAILER on it!!!
