SHAPPY'S ONLINE DIARY:

Guess what? I have another old man's ailment! Say hello to BURSITIS! I went to see Doctor Z on Monday thinking it was a gout related swelling in my right elbow. NOPE! Bursitis! I'm taking 4 pills a day for 10 days. It's already starting to heal up so that's good news. It sucks though cuz I'm working a lot this week and next cuz Moonshine went to San Fran and Diane is in Canada. It's hurts to bend my elbow and guess what a bartender does a lot when pouring beer and drinks?

Performed in a all blogger show on Monday that was pretty fun. The theme was Summer Lovin' but I did a piece called Summer Oven for all of my fellow powerless Astorians.
Here it is-

Summer Lovin’?

More like summer OVEN for us poor souls who live in Astoria!
No power for us!
Fuck you ConEd!
Just think if this happened on Wall Street or Times Square.
Would it have lasted 8 days and counting?
I think not.
If this happened in Brooklyn there would have been riots! Crazy hip-hop riots!
Instead we waited in line for dry ice and crappy sandwiches in the hot summer sun!
We watched incredulously as power lines caught fire and melted on to our sidewalks.
No air-conditioning, no fans, no cable television, no internet!
I swear to Christ, I saw Daniel-Day Lewis walking down Steinway with a bloody club
In his fist dragging a ConEd worker’s lifeless corpse down the street to a cheering mob of Greeks!
It must’ve been from all the spoiled meat I ingested!
So thank you Mayor Mike for your slow response and for your continued support of the world’s worst utility company in the world! You’re doing a heck of a job, Mikey!
My fellow Astorians I raise a candle in your honor and hope the lights come on soon!

Cristin and Moonshine asked from the bar why I wasn't talking about the love O my life, Cristin O'Keefe Aptowicz and I did some love poems about her to close out the set. It was fun! Rives and his brother Rives did my fave Rives poem "Hobo in a Comic Strip". He just posted it at his website shopliftwindchimes.com. On a side note, I was watching a Bob Ross video on You Tube the other day and was taken aback by how much he sounds like Rives! Happy little clouds!

What else? Ernie and Beau got to go to San Diego Comic-Con and see the Fanboys trailer! Me so jealous! Apparently you can see me and Cristin in it for a few brief seconds! They showed it after the Star Wars Fan Film Awards and over 3,000 real-life fanboys went bat-shit!!! Ah, let the hype begin! Ernie and Susan are getting ready to move to Pittsburgh soon which means we'll get to see them more often! Yay! Ernie is also not going to join me for the Nerd Slam at Nationals. BOOO! But his sister is getting married(that's why he can't come) so YAY for that.

We are in the middle of the NYC regionals right now and there's been plenty of drama!
I'm not going to get into that mire of BS but I'm proud of my team and they are doing great work. We've taken a 3 at Nuyorican and A 2 at Bowery. I haven't heard how the Brooklyn bout turned out score wise. We are at Bar 13 (13th and University) this Monday so come cheer us on if you live in NYC we can use all the cheerleaders we can get!

Also on Tuesday we are showing SLAM PLANET-WAR OF THE WORDS at the BPC as a benefit before we go to Nationals! It's the NYC premiere of sorts! So check it out Tuesday August 1st at 7pm. only $7!!

Today is Bruce Aptowicz's last day as city of Philadelphia employee! Happy Retirement, Mr.A!

My nephew Luke is wearing glasses but I haven't seen any pictures yet (hint-HINT!)

I get to have dinner with Cristin tonight which is a nice treat before I go off to work another Friday night Hip-Hop show with Leticia who's book, PAIN IS FUN, just came out! Yet another-CONGRATS!

Guess that's it for now. Live long and prosper!

From Sci-Fi Channel website-

Bell Finds Inner Fanboy

Kristen Bell, who will play a Star Wars fangirl in the upcoming Fanboys, told SCI FI Wire that she got to change her look from the sunny blond high-school detective familiar to fans of her TV series, Veronica Mars. "I wore, like, a short dark bob that has, like, really tight bangs, and, yeah, it was funny and cute, and I sort of dressed ... in, like, skull tights, and ... it was kind of like Goth comic-store nerd fangirl," Bell said in an interview at the Television Critics Association summer press tour in Pasadena, Calif., on July 17. Like Thora Birch's Enid in Ghost World? "Totally."

In Fanboys, Bell plays Zoe, one of several fans who set out in 1999 from the Midwest to California to honor the wish of their dying friend to break into George Lucas' Skywalker Ranch and watch Star Wars: Episode I—The Phantom Menace before the movie's worldwide release.

"Dude, it's a rad idea," the ebullient Bell said. "It stars Chris Marquette, Sam Huntington—who is Jimmy Olsen in Superman [Returns]—Jay Baruchel and Dan Fogler. And ... it's got amazing cameos, like [a] Billy Dee Williams cameo, Carrie Fisher cameos and William Shatner. I mean, it's hysterical." Why Shatner? "There's a war between Star Trek and Star Wars. It's an absolute love letter to any cult fans, but especially the Star Wars ones."

Is Bell herself a Star Wars fangirl? "Kind of," she allowed. "I'm a Star Wars fan. I don't know that I'm as much as the people that we met on the movie. But, ... I mean, I've always loved that trilogy. But we met some crazy fans, man, that have like devoted their life [to it]." Fanboys, directed by Kyle Newman, is tentatively slated for a February 2007 release. —Patrick Lee, News Editor

WHoa! It's been a while since the last post! It's like 100 degrees here in NYC! Thank Jeebus we got a call to cat-sit in AC the last couple o'days! The power went out in Astoria and the power is still out at LaGuardia which is screwing up flights! Cristin performed at the O'Deb's last night and killed it! I went to a Daily Show taping with Jaimie, Allison and Sarah Kay! It was really fun! John Stewart is a great guy! My hard drive went kaputz last week. Luckydave came over and installed a new one and hooked me back up to the internet. I did however lose all of my pictures, movies, video games and iTunes! I had just finished importing all of my CD's! Oh well, Ernie moves to Pittsburg pretty soon and can replace most of that stuff. It just sucks cuz I only had the computer for about 2 months! Ernie is off to the big Comic-Con in San Diego where they will unveil the FANBOYS trailer and poster! That means stuff is about to start popping up on the web so keep your eyes peeled!

AWWW! Look at the happy dancing couple! It's offical! It's legal! Caitlin and Leo are now husband and wife! It was a lovely ceremony! Cristin looked lovely in her frilly green dress and guess what also was lovely? The open bar!

We left NYC for the weddding on Thursday night by catching a train to Trenton. But our connecting train to Philly got delayed which really sucked cuz Cristin hates being stuck on a train. It took us an extra hour to get to Philly!

We got to see Kevin and Katie (Cristin's bro and his wife)'s new house and we got to sleep in the guest room that was painted to look like a magical forest! We got on the road nice and early and got to Anapolis in good time. The minute we got there we were put to work setting up chairs and making the hall look pretty. I got assigned a role as an usher of all trades.

We had the rehersal dinner at Buddy's Crabs & Ribs by the bay. The seafood buffet was incredible, and I ate three kinds of crabs! Me and Cristin snuck off and checked out the area. The weather was nice despite threats of rain, and we saw many dogs wearing bandana and picked up a book on 70s design and giant frozen coffee at City Dock bookstore.

The next morning the father of the bride took the groom, the groomsmen and me (future in-law) and Kevin to Chris & Ruth's Delly for breakfast. The diner made everyone get up and say the pledge of alleigence at 9:30 AM! It's a big Navy town and I had a big plate of potatoes with gravy! I love the South!

The ceremony itself went off pretty smoothly. Afterwards there were rhyming toasts and cake. The drinks were poured by yours truly with Kevin and Cristin's 10 yr-old cousin Matt barbacking! After the ceremeony, the couple took a walk around town. The reception featured a live swing band and lots of good eats. I had a great time challenging Matt to a dance-off! We all staggered off to some fancy-pants bar after where a toasted the bride & groom with a stirring chorus of War Pigs by Black Sabbath started by yours truly.

Me and Cristin headed back to Gotham the next day to cat-sit and soak in AC! On Monday, we had a nice brunch and went to Housing Works Bookstore. We didn't know if it was going to be open, but not only was it opened, but it was having a 30% off everything in the store sale! $15 scored me a bunch of geeky NERD SLAM prize plus a hardcover copy of "GET A LIFE" by William Shatner. It's great!

On the Fourth, me and Cristin took a break from the three day long "Twilight Zone" marathon on the SciFi channel and went to a BBQ at Matt Lydon's and ate a bunch of meat with the BPC crew. After a few hours, we went back to watch the fireworks with the cats. The view was incredible (28 floors up) and watching it in chilly AC can't be beat!

Now we are back in Astoria and me and Cristin are going vegetarian for the rest of July. I will miss chicken nuggets! But it will be a great experiment. I work the next 3 nights but I knead the dough! Looking forward to getting some writing done this Sunday!
