Austin=Awesome!

Back from my five day tour of duty in Austin, TX!

Wednesday I got in and Geneveve Van Cleve picked me up from the airport, fed me tacos and took me to Hogwild where I found some cool treasures (Mr. Clean action figure, Sigmund the Seamonster action figure, Planet of the Apes book and record set, viewmaster reels) Later that evening I got to read some poems at the Austin Slam's semi-finals. The competetion was fierce but Geneveve won the whole darn thing!
They're gong to have the slam finals at the Paramount Theatre on April 29th and the show is going to be amazing!

Thursday I went to 1/2 Price Books and found all kinds of cool stuff. I was happy to see 3 copies of Ultrachrist on the DVD shelves. I scored a old school version of RISK to leave with my RISK playing patriots in town. That night I got to see SLAM PLANET on the big screen at the Alamo Drafthouse which has to be the coolest chain of theaters in the states! You can get beer and food throughout the picture! Everybody looked sexy on the silver screen, especially my gal Cristin who is easily identified in the movie by the fact she is always wearing a striped shirt! Cute!
After I played Scrabble with Andy Buck (I won.)

Friday was the meet and greet BBQ! Brisket, ribs and Shiner Bock for all of the masters of the Slam prepared by Bob Whoopeecat who'll be grilling all week long during Nationals! That's right complimentary BBQ all during Nationals! THis already makes the Austin Slam the coolest in the world! Got to catch up with Wammo and started a TV theme sing-a-long that echoed through fancy hood we were hangin' in! Later we all went to some redneck bar and played Elvis pinball til the wee hours!

Saturday was the first Slammasters meeting in which the following was decided-
-You can not reapeat poems at NPS.
-No more Individal Poet finals
-The NPS will be in Madison, WI in 2008

After all that was a Poetry Decathalon in which I hosted the Nerd Trivia Challenge. I stumped them all! Then I split to play Risk and won after 4 hours of war.

Sunday was more meeting and then off to see Mike Henry's new house and watch America's Next Top Model (I read my tribute to ANTM at the semis earlier that week!)
We had a slam to attend and then an open-mic in which I got shushed off the stage by a over-zealous host! Apparently, he thought there was a time limit?!? What a perfect ending for the 63rd best poet in the world! Then it was off to Magnolia for a last call of queso!

Austin is going to be the best! And they have Nationals again in 2007! Yee-Haa!

Heads up, Austin, Texas!

I'm going to be reading at Ego's on Wednesday night as part of the regular Austin slam and Thursday I'll be reading before a VIP screening of SLAM PLANET at the Alamo Drafthouse. I'll be flitting around town all weekend but most likely you'll find me at Hogwild or Magnolia Cafe stuffing my gullet with queso. Sat & Sun I'll be sequestered somewhere as part of the Slam Master's meeting. Hope to see y'all somewhere in-between!

You know you've arrived as a poet when your work is discussed on the NASCAR on-line forums. . .

Back from my second trip to the set of FANBOYS and I am as red and scaly as a Klingon! The first day it was chilly but very sunny and we were in the sun for like 11 hours. I'm pretty sure I got sun poisoning because I got all these cold symptoms as well as a nasty sunburn on my forehead, nose and ears! Ernie and Cristin got pretty crispy as well. Still we are all going to be 12 feet high in a cinema near you! I wish I could tell you when the movie is going to be released but it's too early to know. I'm pretty sure they still have one more day of shooting to do but the majority of the film is finished. The cast and crew were all very cool and friendly and Cristin got right in there and should be pretty visible in the Riverside, Iowa scene. Cristin switched flights so she wouldn't miss work and Ernie and I hung out for another day and went to the comic book shop they used in the movie and went and had a look at Jess and Ken's amazing Star Wars collections. These guys are from the New Mexico 501st which is a club of Star Wars fans that design their own Stormtrooper outfits and do charity work. They provided much of the armor and various costumes and props. Needless to say, the collections were mind-blowing!
Jess has an entire room of stuff one wall with six shelves. On each shelf was every action figure from each Star Wars film in chronological order! Plus all his armor and all the spacecraft hanging from the ceiling plus all of the original posters that he asked for and got from his local theatre back in the day! Ken had replicas of every weapon from Star Wars and every sword from Lord of the Rings! We took lots of pictures and I'll post em when I get em. Went to Bar 13's anniversary party on Monday and saw the NYC HOWL play later that night. It was fun to hang with my New York homies after sweating it out on the set! Yesterday I got a glowing employee review and it looks like I'm going to re-vamp the Nite Cap on Tuesdays and make it a movie series so I'd show all the Planet of the Apes films in a row on a week to week basis. Anyways, the FANBOYS experience was totally awesome and you can see some pictures of the guy playing Harry Knowles at aintitcool.com! I'll post more stuff as it comes along!

P.S.- A big shout out to Mr. and Mrs. Aptowicz for the desk that now sits in the Man Den! We had a great time at Just Arthurs!!
