SHAPPY'S ONLINE DIARY:

Tuesday, March 28, 2006

Some of you might have noticed that my FANBOYS posts have gone missing. That's because the Hollywood machine has asked that I refain from discussing the movie on-line until they finish shooting and since I don't want to ruin anything for anyone involed including myself, I complied. I can tell you that me and Cristin and Ernie are returning to the set this weekend for another big scene and that's all I can say about that! As soon as I get the go-ahead there will be lots of Fanboys stuff here, so stay tuned true-believers!

In other news, our pals Ed and Jeannie have bought a house in Philly! It isn't even built yet but the layuot is incredible! Of course, we will miss our Astoria power couple but we wish them all the best! They won't be moving until Aug or Sept. So we have them for a whole Astoria summer.

Did I ever mention that I am now the official Slam-master of Urbana now? This means I'll be in Austin in early April for the big Slam-masters meeting in which rules and policies are discussed and voted on. It also means I represent the team at Nationals when stuff goes down. I have the power!

Our slam season is almost over! But we have an awesome line-up to close out the season! Beau Sia is featuring this Thursday, then Patricia Smith, Cute-Boy Slam with Mike McGee and our last semi-finals with Anis Mogani! Looks like we're going to have a interesting mix of poets this year. If things shake out it could be a very hungry, scruffy, go-getter squad!

For all you poetry people out there be sure to check out Spike Lee's latest joint INSIDE MAN which features slammer Carlos Gomez and Def Poet Lemon as bank robbers!

Speaking of poets in movies, SLAM PLANET had it's big premiere at South by Southwest and the buzz is good! Big ups to Mike Henry and his crew! Hopefully you'll be seeing it in theatres everywhere!

Had some good nights at the BPC lately. We eagerly await the opening of a new juice-bar/cafe this spring! It's been rough on my deliveries and stuff.

Wish me and Cristin luck as we go before the cameras this weekend!

So we got to cat-sit this past weekend and it was great weather for the most part. Kind of a slow week at the club but the whole Bowery area is suffering after the murder case. Tends to keep folks away. Still, Urbana was okay, Stephen Meads put on a good show and the Bukowski tribute afterwards brought out a decent crowd plus I got to read a poem and got some nice compliments. Friday was bleh. Again, Diane O'Debra let me split early which I guess is fair since I'd been there since 4pm and she started at 10. Ideally it would be busy enough to justify 2 bartenders being there but it's impossible to see the future. So for once I got up early on a Saturday and really enjoyed the day with Cristin. We went to the park, St. Mark's Books, Cornelia Street Cafe for brunch then we hit some flea markets in Chelsea! I found a cool scrubbing bubble toy and some ols Star Trek TNG videos (the one with Scotty!) Cristin didn't feel well and went home while I checked out Entertainment Outlet and found Lady and the Tramp cheap! I got home and Cristin had conked out so we stayed in and watched cable. I had a staff meeting and then we hung out with Susan when she got home. She gave us a new Gevalia coffee maker! It's really slick!
She's a super lady! Tuesday we have a record release for my pal Brook Pridemore at 8pm so check it out! Then Friday I'm off to New Mexico for my big Hollywood moment!

I had the Shappiest of birthdays! Last Monday Cristin took me out to dinner at Telly's Taverna a Greek joint down the street that I guess we were too chicken to eat at before. (We are loyal Neptune diners!) It was great! The salad and flaming cheese. Cristin had shrimp and I ordered lamb but got steak! Ooops! Still dee-lish!
When we got home I got to open my presents from Cristin. She got me 4 canvases, paints and a brush set! Guess I got some painting to do! She also got me the Chip Kidd book with all the awesome book jackets he's designed. Perfect for a book fetishist like meself! Cristin was worried I'd not like my gifts! She's right, I don't like them...I LOVE THEM!!! Man, am I gay or what?

Tuesday I worked the Pretty in Pink show at the BPC which was okay but I'd hoped more folks would have dropped by. I showed some Shappy videos later that night and got a wee bit tipsy!

Wednesday I ran my weekly errands-comic shop, CVS, Blockbuster, library and groceries. I made BBQ chicken and green bean casserole to thank Cristin for Monday's dinner. I also found out that my pal Ernie is going to pay for me to visit the set of the movie he done wrote! Whoa! Can't say much about the top secret filming but I might get to meet one of my IDOLS! Also, received a card from the parents with b-day loot! Thanks John & Brenda! And while I'm at it-thanks Cal and Kate for the iTunes!

Thursday-Rain, sleet & snow caused our feature Dasha Kelly to be delayed in Chicago. I gave Leticia the night off and ran around like a fool trying to host, keep score and bartend! I did gain some new fans that night. Matt Lydon had his Center Coast show and I made okay tips. I came home and watched the pilot for Six Feet Under. How come nobody ever talked about this show? It's quirk-a-licious!

Friday- Slow night at the club. I got to knock off early. Thanks, Diane O'Debra! You're aces!

Saturday- Cristin and I had to go see an art exhibit for an article she's doing for Bust magazine. We tooled around Chelsea and saw some great art! Picasso, Basquiat, Haring, Warhol. I made us eat at the world's worst diner. Cristin claims my "diner radar" is officially broken. All I know is was getting angry from being hungry which we call "Hangry". I'll never let that happen again! I swear to Zod! After that we hung out at a bookstore and cracked up at a book called Disco Bar Mitzvah! We had some time to kill before the Pisces Party so we saw MATCHPOINT which was every bit as good as I had heard it would be. The BPC was packed to the gills! Lots of party people. Leticia did a great job hosting and we did a song together which was fun! Cristin cut Matt's hair late and then everyone wanted their hair cut! We made cab fare in tips.

Sunday we got fixins for Fiesta Twirls and Asparagus Rolls to take over to Ed and Jeanie's for Oscar night. Man-o-man! Did we ever put on the feedbag! Ed and Jeannie made mini-pizzas and salad and toasted bread and olive spread and rice krispie treats and chocolate bananas on a stick! Our Aptowicz appetizers were a smash hit! We wallowed home in shock that CRASH won best picture! Blech!

Monday I went out to Morgan Taylor's to do some voice-over work for a new Gustafer Yellowgold project. It was cool to see Crad and help out. Had to hustle home to get to my tax prep! Getting a refund much to Cristin's chagrin. Now I'm watching more Six Feet before I return it to the library. Drop by for Karaoke at the BPC at midnite!
