Loads and loads of news!!!

First of all, I ended up winning the iWPS qualifying slam on Thursday!! This means I'll be reppin' Urbana in Charlotte, NC!! I'll be competing among some of the best the first weekend o' Feburary. Wish me luck, true-believers!

Secondly, Cristin and I had a wonderful visit with my folks in Homosassa, FL! We flew out on Friday on Song Airlines which was pretty nice. You can watch TV and listen to music. I ended up being the all time trivia champ of the airways! John and Brenda picked us up and we were off to Homosassa!

First, they took us to the Whistle Stop which was an all-you-can-eat southern buffet! Fried okra, biscuits and gravy, mashed potatoes and shrimp! Mom and Dad live in a gated community of retirees and have a nice pad. Lots of space and even a workshop for Mom's crafts!

The next day we hit the flea market which Cristin says was her favorite flea market she's been to so far. Mainly because there were puppies everywhere for her to pick up and pet! We scored so much cool stuff-hand-made wooden doxie wall hanging, collectible doxie plate (thanks, Ma!) 8-tracks, Escape From NY special edition DVD ($8!) and so much more. I had a giant corn dog called a Dixie Dawg.

We hit the Goodwill next and found a couple of those paintings of the kids with the big eyes for a buck each! That night we went out for a delish seafood dinner and played a cool dominos game called Mexican Train which is quite addictive! Sunday we headed to the wildlife preserve and saw manatees and Lucifer the hippo and all kinds of critters. The whole place was run by senior citizen volunteers, cute!

We had a nice chicken and dumpling supper with my Aunt Charlotte and Uncle Vernon and cousin Pam and their 17 year old dog Bandit! Cristin was pretty smitten with that Shih Tzu!

After everyone took off we headed over to the clubhouse for BINGO! Cristin won the first game, Dad won one, I won one and then Cristin won the big $56 pot at the end! There were plenty of steamed blue hairs that night! Mom brought out the family photos and let me take home some of them. Then we played Mexican Train til the wee hours of the night! We had a great time and can't wait to be retirees ourselves! My only regret is that I had a cold most of the time we were out there and now Cristin has it. OOPS!

Thanks again Mom & Dad! We had a lovely time and we LOVE YOU!!!

Well, I guess she likes me after all! Cristin is forbidding me to write anything more about this. She's the boss, people!

But for those of you wanting to see the McSweeney's muse in the flesh, come see me LIVE this Thursday (January 12th) at the Bowery Poetry Club.

When I am not kicking much ass at Urbana's iWPS Finals, I'll be laughing at the superior intellect of Khan!

Seriously though, come out and cheer a nerd on! It will mean more to me than getting that letterman jacket meant to Lucas!!

Like I say every year. . . SHAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Thursday was our staff party at the BPC I was behind the bar most of the night until Moonie and Irene showed up and we all took turns. Cristin cut lots of heads of hair and made some tips! Bob gave me an awesome Super 8 reel of STAR WARS! It was a fun night!
Friday was the press party and book release for the Bowery Press Books (Taylor Mead's A SIMPLE COUNTRY GIRL & THE BOWERY BARTENDER'S BIG BOOK OF POETRY) Gary Glazner came in for it and had us mixing crazy drinks behind the bar. Taylor Mead was in TimeOut NY so he had a huge crowd and we celebrated his 81st birthday! I'm not sure how much press was at the press party but we'll have to wait and see I guess! Afterwards was a huge hip-hop show that was pretty busy. By Saturday I was pooped! Cristin had Patrick over early for a haircut and then we went to Neptune's for brunch and we conked out again! We went over to Jordan Hoffman's for the countdown and some delish red beans and rice and empanadas. We were still tired so we came home and watched Life Aquatic.

Sunday we took a nice long walk, had brunch at Fatty's and went to the internet cafe and went grocery shopping and then got a call from Ed and Jeanie so we headed over there for pizza and Ed showed me how to load up my Ipod shuffle! I love it! It's like my own Shappy radio station! I put mostly upbeat stuff on (Weezer, Pixies, Green Day, Beck and lots of TV themes) cuz I figure I'll be wearing it on my way to work mostly. Today I wore it while cleaning up the snoo roost! So we had a nice friendly, mellow start to 2006 which I hope is an indication of good times and smooth sailing in this the year of the DOG!
