SHAPPY'S ONLINE DIARY:

Monday, May 23, 2005

Last Tuesday I started to freak out that we didn't have tickets for SITH! I got on the horn to Ed Garcia who live like 2 blocks from the theatre and MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! We waited on-line Wednesday night for the midnight show. 12 screens all showing SITH! It was smart of us to see it in Queens because I'm sure all the Manhattan shows were crazy! Plus, we were able to go right home afterwards. As I'm sure you've heard by now, it's the best of the pre-quels. It had to be! It's pretty dark and gory and no cutsie-pie shit this go round. The Anakin & Padme scenes are eye-rollingly bad. But there's plenty of action in this one! I'm gonna see it again on one of the digital screens here in NYC. Thursday we had the Nerd Slam at the club. In retrospect, it was probally a bad idea to have it on opening day of SITH. I shoulda promoted it more. Last year it was in June. Not as many people came as I would've liked. The show was still pretty awesome and gave me an excuse to buy a lightsaber and Darth Vader voice-changing helmet. Jollyship played as the Bantha Skulls and previewed a lot of new songs from the upcoming show. Leticia won with a rocking number called "I'm afraid when statues come to life!" The best part was ther was a gal in the crowd who makes her living as a living statue! Leticia wanted nothing to do with her! After the Nerd Slam was a huge rock show that attracted a lot of heavy-drinking, white, middle-agers that drank almost $2000 worth of booze in 2 hours! Friday was a little more mellow and fun with the closing night of House of Yes. Cristin and I hung low and slow this weekend. Watched movies, cleaned the pad and went grocery shopping, etc. Oh yeah, we also dyed my hair blonde last week! I'm a summer blonde, again! Now to play some classic Atari and write poems about it! Big project coming up!

So Friday I featured at the Cornelia Street Cafe. It's a classic Greenwich Village spot. The poetry happens down in the basement in a very narrow cove. It was an older crowd (no one under 30) so I was curious to see how I'd go over after featuring for teenagers a couple of weeks ago. It went pretty well. I even sold a couple o' books! I pretty much got the shaft on getting paid. I did get a nice meal out of the deal. I had pate for the first time in a long while and a delish chicken breast. I took the night off work to do the show and attend Ed Garcia's birthday party! Me and Cristin made a batch of our infamous Pumpkin Chili and it seemed to go over pretty well. Man-o-man, there was a lot of food at the party! I had at least 23 shrimp, 4 brownies, 2 rice krispie treats, fondue, and other assorted snacks. I think me and Cristin ate our way into food comas cuz when we got home Cristin fell asleep almost immediately. I also went to Toy Tokyo to get Ed some gifts. I got him a nerd keychain, a computer Smurf, a build your own Mario Bros. scene and a complete set of Battle of the Planets G-Force lego dudes. I got a Capt. Caveman bobble-head for myself! Saturday Cristin went to Philly to see U2 in concert with Aaron Myers. Apparently, they ended up front and center! I went to work only to find the fridge had broke down. Try getting a repair man on the weekend! I had to ice everything down and so did poor Patty today. It'll be fixed tomorrow. I still managed to make pretty good tips. I've been watching all of my Star Wars DVD's all week. I can't wait to see SITH! I'm also pretty excited about the NERD SLAM coming up this Thursday. I hope plenty of Nerds show up!

Shame on me! So much has happened! Doxie day was last Saturday and it was as fun as always. There was a protest to save Washington Square park from NYU developers or some such thing and some lady with a bullhorn came over and tried to get all the weenie owners to join their dumb rally. This old man went over to her and scolded her, "Shame on you! This is Dachshund Day! How dare you!". Yeah! Don't mess with a doxie lover! It always gets Cristin all riled up to see so many weens and not to have one of our own. I get pretty riled up as well. We want to be doggie parents! Then I had a gig in Mt. Kisco for Zork! Zork has started up quite a reading series up-state! I had an eager crowd of wacky high schoolers that were one of the best crowds I've had in a while! I was glad to see that I'm not out of touch with today's youth! Monday I did a musical spot at the O'Deb's about Star Wars Celebration. Tuesday I went to Hitch Hiker's Guide (NOT FUNNY!)then I worked the Manhattan Monologue Slam and made good tips. Wednesday we worked on some comedy writing and ordered a kick ass thin crust pizza from a new joint in town. Thursday was the Urbana Finals which went swimmingly. Our team is looking good. Taylor Mali, Post Midnight, Akua and Chad Anderson. Looks like I'll be going to New Mexico as well! Friday I had my employee review and it went great! Then a huge fashion show over ran the club and made me a buncha tips as well! Saturday I slept in late and cleaned up the apartment a little. Cristin came back from visiting her brother and we went out to Neptune for dinner. I had steak for the first time this year! It was really good! Sunday we watched Life Aquatic and all of it's extra features! Today we had dinner at Chat-n-Chew and saw John Landis at the table across from us! We checked out Bar 13's Slam Finals and we were bummed that Fish didn't advance so Cristin actually came out to the O'Deb's for the first time ever! We took a cab home and I made some french bread pizza as a late snack! I have 10 days to get ready for the Nerd SHow which is May 19th (opening day for SITH!) I only hope the stormtroopers from the 501st will come!
