SHAPPY'S ONLINE DIARY:

Monday, March 28, 2005

It was a lot of fun to dust off the old acting chops for the HATCHET MAN reading last Tuesday. Cristin said I was real good and looking good in my suit. Wednesday I ran errands and tended to my sore knee. Thursday I was back at the BPC for Urbana and we had a good crowd for Urbana. Scott Woods was there to support Kim Brazwell (our feature) and she was awesome! Plus, all three of us were Ohio-ans. Go Buckeyes! Friday we had a book release for Juicy Mother which was a comics complilation from Soft Skull. It was a great time and I got 2 books! After that was the always busy 3rd Party which took it's toll on my knees (again!). I'm grateful for the busy nights and the tips they bring-but-THE PAIN! Cristin got me some Icy Hot the next day and it worked wonders! That leads me to believe it's not gout but maybe just over-use of old joints. We went into Manhattan cuz I had an Urbana meeting but we decided to check out Melinda & Melinda as well. It's one of Woody's best in years! And it gets big points for having a doxie in a all too short cameo! After the flick we got some mags and movies at Tower, some soap and stuff and headed back to Queens for our traditional Neptune supper. Easter Sunday was pretty mellow. We took a walk and returned to Neptune. The knee is feeling much better today. I got lots to do before my trip to San Fransico and will post all my gigs on the upcoming shows page soon!

Another busy week! Monday I went in to H&R Block and signed off on my returns. It's great to get a refund! I also booked my tickets to go visit Ernie and go to Star Wars Celebration 3! I'm totally geeked! I also got my Stay Alive game I ordered from eBay. Cristin says she has it all figured out already. Tuesday was slow going at the BPC but fun anyway. Wednesday I had a gig with David Poe and Tara Angel at Makor which went great! I got lots of compliments and sold some books. I hope to more shows with the Artist's Den in the future. Thursday we had the limerick slam which Cristin won with her "Kind-ricks" which are limericks that are sweet and complimentary! Lewis Black showed up and said hello and introduced me to some Daily Show guys! Then the drunk parade began and kept me and Leticia very busy behind the bar and Friday night got real busy for a band called Broken Laces which were awesome mainly for covering "Final Countdown". These last 2 nights took it's toll on my old knees so we mostly napped and watched movies. Cristin painted this picture of me! Ain't I all handsome and stuff?

Well, it was a busy week! Tuesday was lousy weather and all bit one show cancelled at the BPC. Thank goodness I had a copy of Forbidden Zone to show! It's a great old musical film that Danny Elfman and his theater company made in 1980 with Herve Villachez! Wednesday I went to meet with a director about a part in an indie film. I would play a screenwriter whose wife thinks he is cheating on her. The guy is a semi-regular at the BPC and asked a lot of people from the club to meet with him. After that I went to Housing Works and found a copy of "The Best of Both Worlds" from Star Trek-NG which I am watching now! After that I went to H&R Block and my taxes prepared by a woman named Brenda! (That's my mom's name) I am getting a nice refund and am considering a trip to Chicago to visit Cline and go to the STAR WARS CELEBRATION to film stuff for the nerd show. Thursday I got to have lunch with Cristin for a change. We had a pretty good Urbana with a lot of new slammers. Jollyship the Whizbang played after and it was cool to see the old crew in action. We all played pool after which I hadn't done in a while. Friday I made all my money before Leticia even showed up and it was dismal after that. To make matters worse, Moonshine was having a birthday party next door and it looked like more fun than the hip-hop show that no one showed up for. At least Soce the Elemental Wizard was there and did a great set. Today I slept in and ran some errands and watched a bunch of nerdy stuff that Cristin wouldn't want to watch mainly because she is visiting her Dad who just had some surgery on his nose. He's doing fine. I was invited and would have gone but I had just taken 2 Friday nights off in the last 2 weeks. I have a show with my old Dayton pal David Poe next Wednesday and will try to post something on my upcoming shows page soon!

We had a great weekend! Friday I worked a half-shift and came home early to hang with Cristin and her bro, Kevin. The next day her folks came in and brought the big IKEA bookshelf Cristin bought herself and a bonus bookshelf to boot! We had a lovely brunch and then me and Cristin took a nap and then headed to the Pieces Birthday Party at the BPC. Cristin gave haircuts and made $71 in tips! I got up and performed with the staff backing me up on bass, drums and guitar! The Family SHap was back! It was a great party! Got a great package of nerd stuff from Ernie Cline for my b-day! Thank you my nerd brother! Also Thax Douglas-if you are reading this-e-mail me! I may have a gig for you!

Spamalot is the best show I've ever seen in a theatre! It's bawdy, hilarious and super nerdy! I predict it'll be bigger than The Producers! It's a total send-up of all the Broadway Musical conventions. It was the best birthday gift ever! We also had a nice dinner at Olive Garden with a great view of the snow falling on Times Square. I also got a package from my folks that had a Simpsons chess board in it! Far out! Cristin is gonna teach me how to play chess! Thanks Mom & Dad! Last night was super slow at the club. I stayed out and played some pool after work. Cristin taped the America's Next Top Model Where are they now? Today I made chicken breasts with mushrooms and creamed spinach and egg noodles and we watched Top Model and American Idol and then we cleaned up the kitchen to make way for 2 bookcases we have coming this weekend. The mighty Mike McGee is featuring for us at Urbana tomorrow and then Soce the Elemental Wizard is after that! Should be a gas!
