I'm totally traveling back in time to do a Christmas update since it's been pretty crazy til today. I worked at the BPC on the 23rd for the Urbana Semi-Finals which Post Midnight won. After that we had sort of a half-assed holiday party at the club cuz a lot of folks had already left town but no matter we all got free pizza and Christmas bonuses and jammed out. I stayed up all night to catch an early train to Philly to meet up with Cristin which was awesome cuz I got to wake up and go and get a cheese steak and Birch Beer and Tastycakes for lunch! Then the Aptowicz bunch and me drove up to the "Parlor By The Sea" for pizza and tree trimming. My sleep schedule was way off at this point which lead to waking up before 10 am on Christmas morning which I don't think has happened since I was 12! I got Simpsons Jeopardy and Dog Monopoly and How To Start an eBay company for Dummies which was a pretty cool gift. Cristin scored a cappucino maker! Surprisingly we were able to cart all that stuff on the train (due to my excellent packing technique!). Mrs. A prepared a great meal as always. We had ham and turkey and sausage stuffing and corn soup and crescent rolls. As you may have gathered I helped with the mashed potatoes which Mrs. A says I am now in charge of at holiday meals! Oh, yeah we also got a cool label maker which we have already made a mailbox label. It'll come in handy organizing all of files and videos and stuff. Me and Cristin took a nice little stroll around the neighborhood and looked at all the decorations. Those giant airsock figures are all the rage in the burbs this holiday season cuz they were everywhere this year it seemed. I called John and Brenda and my brother called me later on Christmas day. Overall, it was a nice relaxing holiday and I hope yours were pleasant as well!

Man, oh, man! I loves me some Christmas! Monday was the first super cold day of December, like below zero wind chill and stuff. So Cristin and I decided to stay in and exchange gifts early! Yay! So I got some cool books and a Spock Lego guy and the best gift was an L.L. Bean monogrammed "Snoo" robe! I love it! It's so comfy! I got snoopa a doxie brooch and a DVD called "Lord of the Wiens" and James Kolchaka's American Elf. Some of my gifts have yet to arrive in the mail. For dinner I made fish sticks and tater tots! Tuesday I worked at the club and we had karoke+poetry=FUN which was a good time. Then we had some really boring jazz combos that played way too long which f'd up Nite Cap with Shap. I showed the Star Wars holiday special to a crowd of no one. At least Joel Chamarra popped in for a visit. We keep getting cool packages from friends and family! Mom and Dad sent a box of goodies, thanks guys! Hilary from Austin sent us some awesome trading cards and a doxie ornament! Ernie sent us a big box of video goodness! Thanks pal! Tonight we have semi-finals at Urbana and our BPC holiday party (I'm getting a bonus this year!) then I'm off to spend the holiday weekend with the Aptowicz's. Should be a blast! Mrs. A is cooking up a bunch of good eats! So Shappy Holidays everybody!

Our home computer has been acting funny lately. Here's a rundown of the last couple days.

Monday-Went to the O'Debra's show and stayed out too late!
Tuesday- Got a call from Dawn asking if I wanted to host Karaoke for a corporate party. Since Naz was shooting a video at the club, I said yes and made $200!
Wednesday-Went to Cristin's work party and also visited the sweet lady we cat sit for! Then we watched the season finale of America's Next Top Model! I knew Eva would win!
Thursday-No Urbana but Bill Hick's birthday party instead. Janane Garafolo was supposed to host but cancelled! Will I ever meet her?
Friday- We had Urbana tonight and it was pretty slow. Louder Arts had their holiday party which was a welcome change from bad hip-hop. Good tips!
Saturday- Got some shopping done and did Christmas cards.
Sunday- Hit the main street of Astoria for holiday madness! Found a bunch of great videos at Goodwill! Had dinner at Cup Diner with Ed and Jeannie and got two cool vintage Scrabble related games. Now we watch Best in Show and worry about the laptop!

Also the 17th was my nephew Luke's 2 birthday! Happy belated Birthday little dude!

Thursday's Urbana was fun. MuMs (from HBO's OZ) was our feature. We are now giving away some really cool stuff as prizes. Mainly-Lewis Black stuff signed by Lewis Black! I've been getting really good feedback from folks about my hosting which is nice since I had some big shoes to fill! Friday we had Uncle Jimmy at the club which was super fun and entertaining and we made great tip$! Saturday me and Cristin rented ELF and DODGEBALL and did a little shopping. Sunday we took a walk and got coffee and then we finished cataloguing all of our videos and DVD's (over 900 movies and shows!) then Matt and Megan and baby Anna Bea all came out to check out Astoria (they are thinking about moving out here!) and we had a swell dinner at the Neptune. Cristin and Anna Bea really hit it off! I also put up some Christmas decorations and tidied up the pad. I have the next 3 days off to get all my shopping and mailing done! Shappy Holi-daze!

Greetings from the Hunt Student Union! Took a five hour bus ride, got in a cab and have now been sitting here eating sbarro and surfing the web. I have a room in a house but what was I going to do there? So with all of this solitary time I thought I would try and expalain my Kitchy Sensibilites. Cristin told me last night that she can't quite figure out where my pop culture tastes lie (or is that lay? Grammar police!) Here's a list of a few of my favorite things in no particular order.

Peanuts-I used to have all the paperbacks when I was a kid. I have quite a few of them now. They seem to be getting harder to find.I did manage to find a strange collection of Peanuts hardcovers published by Mattel that are two books in one when you flip them over. But thanks to the new Fantagraphics series I won't need to trace a bunch of paperbacks down (although I am a sucker for the oversize editions that first appeared in the early 60's). I also like older toys and stuff from the 50's, 60's and 70's by the 80's it started getting crass. I have a pretty good selection of Avon products with the original boxes. I also paid more than I should have for a vinyl 50's Charlie Brown in Austin but he's a champ!

Advertising characters- Back in the old days if you wanted to sell something you turned it into a cartoon! Right now my collection is mostly food & restrauant related
Big Boy, A&W bear, Icee Bear, Slurpee cups from 7-11, McDonald's glasses and retired characters (Mayor McCheese! Need more Mayor McCheese stuff!) Pilsbury Doughboy, Cap'n Crunch, Quisp, Hostess Snack Cake Characters and displays, Sprout (from Green Giant)and some other stuff. I'd like to get more stuff in this catagory I'd love some Burger Chef (which became Hardee's) stuff. The 2 guys were Burger Chef and
Jeff. Cereal boxes are really pricey but they do make re-pro's of them cheap. I'd like some old Mr. Peanut stuff. There were also some short lived Burger King characters that may or may not have products like Sir Shakes A Lot and The Wizard of Fries. Also, every time I go to Austin I eyeball this complete set of McDonaldland dolls from Mego. I just can't drop the dollars on it! This is why I need to become ridiculously wealthy so these issues don't arise!

Obscure and forgotten cartoon characters- I'm a sucker for 'em! Sure kids today know who Mickey and Bugs and Scooby are. But those assholes would be nowhere without their supporting casts! But I'm not even talking about the supporting cast here! I'm talking about Mushmouse and Punkin' Puss! Deputy Dawg! Super Chicken! The Mighty Heroes! And those are just the animated ones. Who remembers Zody the Mod Rob from Gold Key Comics? I may be the only one! I mean how many copies of that could possibly be floating around? I'm also very keen on the World of Syd and Marty Kroft. H.R. Pufinstuf, Lidsville, Bugaloos. I can't wait to blow my niece and nephew's mind with those shows! I should add that this particular obsession only goes as far as the mid-80's but it's origins go as far back as the early comic pages. Also I love it when I find a comic book that also has a rare advertising character in it!

I'm running out of time so here's a short list of stuff I dig-
Simpsons
View-Masters
Pez
Vintage candy
non-sports trading cards
old board games (especially TV-related)
old Star Wars toys
Atari 2600
DVD and VHS of old cartoons and commercials
8-tracks and book and record sets

Now get me something cool for X-mas!

December is always a busy month. So many errands to run, shows to see and people to get together with! Last week wad a busy one at the club. Tuesday every slam queen in town auditioned for the Oxygen network. Cristin did great! They are looking to use poets as station ID or something. Nite Cap was fun, we watched Muppet Shows and played trivia challenge.

Thursday a huge high school show was already in progress when I walked in and then I hosted Urbana which was fun and Aaron Myers was there visiting Cristin! Matt and Brook had thier first Center Coast music showcase which was cool and it was Kris Anton's b-day! Friday was busier than I thought it would be and I made good tip$ all week long.

Had a great early dinner with snoo on Saturday and got some x-mas shopping done. Also went to a book release party for Soft Skull's new Gamers anthology. It was awesome to hang out with all the literary nerdlings! I totally bombed in the trivia contest. Cristin's sister was also in town although I never saw her. Sunday we chilled out and cried while watching Terms of Endearment! What a couple of saps we are!

Meanwhile, I'm performing in Oeneta on Tuesday:

If you are in the neighborhood, come on down!!
