HAPPY FOUR YEAR ANIIVERSARY CRISTIN O'KEEFE APTOWICZ!
I'm sure it's no big surprise to you that your romance is The Princess Bride. A heartwarming tale of "Twue Wuve" that has giants, Spainards and swashbuckling. You really do think that love can overcome anything. You may be a touch naive but your heart is certainly in the right place. You've probably got one of those relationships where proper nouns have been replaced with "Snookums" and "Pookie Pie". Eww. Beware a cuteness overload.

So my gal isn't feeling so hot. She goes to the doctor again tomorrow. I wish we knew what was troubling her. It just makes me upset to see her feeling lousy. So tonight I'm making her a veggie pizza and a $5 bill falls out of the Digorno's box! How crazy is that? It's the meal that pays for itself! So we celebrate our 4 year anniversary this Friday! I made reservations at the fancy Italian joint here in our neighborhood. That makes for a short work week. I plan on spending Friday cleaning up the apartment. My pal Morgan gets married on Saturday. And then Mike Henry is supposed to show up sometime on Sunday. I'm glad I just sort of chilled out tonight. I'm hosting Urbana tomorrow night drop by if ya can! Should be fun.

A David Banner Week!
So not only do I get named best bartender in the paper but Moonshine won the Mr. Lower East Side Pageant! A staff of local heroes at the Bowery Poetry Club! Right now I'm cat-sitting while the kitties owner takes my gal to the Hamptons Film Festival. I get to watch cable and she gets fancy dinners, free films and celebrity spotting. Made good money on Friday and stayed up way too late watching Curb Your Enthusiasm. Got up and got a new cel phone cheap as my contract expired and I upgrade my calling plan and got a way cooler phone for $20! I went to Forbidden Planet and got some cheap Simpsons action figures at the TOY BLOWOUT! I got all of the nerds from the episode when Homer goes back to college. I also hit a cheap wholesale type place and got a new hoodie and socks. I also went to Entertainment Outlet and got the Ren & Stimpy DVD at a good price. It sounds like I spent a lot of money but I didn't! If you know where the bargains are you can be a successful nerd shopper like me! I'm really just filling the void of not having a snoo around! She's too cheapskate to call me from a hotel! And I so desperately want to hear my new cel phone custom ring! It's getting chillier here in the city. Our landlord finally turned on our heat. But no worries here as a turn on the central heat and curl up with the kitties and read my Peanuts collection! Sigh.

SHAP,CRAPS N' VEGAS!
Shaptowicz has returned from Sin City after flying on the most uncomfortable Ted flight ever. AVOID TED AIRLINES! I got home around 11am my luggage showed up around 8PM! Argh! At least my souvenir Borg coffee cup didn't break! So here's how it all went down.
Wednesday- The BPC was packed as everyone wanted a glimpse of Flavor Flav and Chuck D. I never got to see them as Moonie showed up around 9 and let me get home early to pack cuz our flight was at 7 AM the next day. Made some traveling cash and got to watch the last debate with snoo. I thought it was pretty even-handed and think the whole Cheney lesbian comment was no biggie. Dick didn't flip when Edwards did it! What's all the hub-bub?
Thursday- Up at 4:30 AM to catch the flight. The various time changes really screw up our body clocks. We do get a friendly pick-up at the Vegas airport from our host David Figlerand fellow KAPOW! poet Kevin Sampsell . We check into the Golden Nugget and get a quick shower and nap in before having to show up for the show. A small crowd the first night but it's a big outdoor stage and as I'm closing my set fireworks go off! Cristin was spunky as always and Derrick Brown was his enigmatic self.Kevin read some disturbing stuff and then felt bad about it. I thought it was awesome to freak out the squares! Sold a lot of books and got to say hello to local favorite Andy Hall. We went back to the G-Nug for viddles. We had a Vegas portion of nachos and then checked out some of this lame-o "Comedy Festival" that was going on. There was a never ending line-up of hack stand-ups performing for a crowd of no one. But we did steal lots of bad jokes for the next night's performance! Got a small taste of the nickel slots and crashed hard that night.
Friday- Me and Cristin get up super early cuz of the time difference. We call up Derrick and Cristin asked if we woke him up and he says he was up anyway doing brain-stem research. So we hook up and head to IN-AND-OUT BURGERS. The BEST chain burger I have ever had. DB says the joint is owned by Christians and sure enough there's a John 3:16 on the bottom of my soda cup! We then headed to The Star Trek Experience which was totally AWESOME! We hit the gift shop and Cristin gets freaked out by a random Borg wandering around. (We have pictures of all of this and will post them soon!) We did the museum and the two "attractions" which were pretty impressive virtual reality type deals with live actors and pre-taped Star Trek stars. We had a ball goofing on the whole thing although Cristin got freaked out as the Borg tried to attack us. I have to write a poem about all this cuz it was so cool and fun! We gambled a bit and tripled my money on the Twilight Zone nickel slots. DB won a couple hands of Blackjack. We were joined by Patrica Smith, Jerry Quickley and Jeff McDaniel for a much bigger crowd that night. I think we had some competition from Michael Moore being at the college. Oh well. Got a lot of good feedback and sold even more merch that night! Snoo and I treated ourselves to room service and again went to bed around 11pm! I swear, Senior Citizens were up later than us spending their life savings on slots!
Saturday- Woke up so early we decide it's time to hit the buffet! We played slots all morning and hit it big on the ALIEN nickel slots. I think the key to my success is only playing nerd-related machines! We then get rounded up for a 3 hour panel about (what else?) POETRY! Not so many showed up but that didn't stop any poets from flapping their jaws. I was jonesin' to hit more of the sights and sounds of Las Vegas but, alas, was denied! We did get to go to a nice antique shop called the Funk House and I found some cool old books and we finally managed to get a Kerry/Edwards poster to put in our window. We poets all had a wonderful Thai dinner at Figgy's place and played Trivial Pursuit until it was time to rush to the airport to suffer under TED'S wrath!
Overall- a great trip! I would like to go back and just be a tourist sometime. We never really got to see the Strip in all of it's tacky glory. Big ups to David Figler and his sister for all the hospitality and to the poetry lovers in Vegas! Never in my life have I felt like such a Skittle Pimp!

As we move closer to election day, let us go ahead hate the other's side CANDIDATES, but remember to love the other side in general... especially if the other side includes your snoo's Bush-loving mom:
VOTE KERRY!! See ya when I get back from Vegas!!

It was weird having Tuesday and Wednesday off. Tuesday I went to the Library and got Al Franken's book and a book on how to win at slots. I also rented F 9/11 to gear up for the debates. Thursday was a slow Urbana. Rachel Kahn was the feature and did a great set. I slammed with an improv debate thing. Then Celena Glenn had a really cool jam session and I made some good tips. Friday was slow. Saturday Cristin's mom showed up for Doxie Day at Washington Square park! It was awesome! I hope to post pix of all the weens in costume! We then went and saw an exhibit of John Lennon drawings and prints then went book hunting at Housing Works. We ordered out Cajun food and watched the Tivo'd debate from Friday. Then went to Barnes and Noble! Today we saw off Cristin's mom and headed to Anna Bea's 1st birthday party! Now we are finally relaxing and taking it easy! I'd like to try and see Huckabees tonight. I'm working up until Vegas on Thursday! Come by the BPC on Tuesday for my first attempt at Nitecap with Shap. I think my old pal Rob Paravonion might drop by!

Cheney evil cyborg! Edwards pretty mouth from South! This debate not as exciting as the first round of Kerry vs. Bush. I can't wait to see the town hall debates! I predict Bush will not be ready to face the angry unwashed masses questions. Thank the maker we are house-sitting and it'll be TIVO'd!
Last week was pretty good. Thursday we had Urbana with Jeff Trenchard from the Suicide Kings. He had a good set. The slam was pretty lame. I think I'm done slamming. Zero appeal to me right now. Friday was Insane as we had an open bar for a bunch of broke art stars. They ran me ragged for 2 solid drink swinging hours! The tips were great! Saturday I met Cristin in Manhattan to go to a book fair in Washington Square park. Got some cool books and a stack of old kiddie 45'S FOR $5!
We came home after unsuccessfully trying to get tix for I HEART HUCKABEE's and had a nice supper at Neptune's. Sunday watched the morning news shows then slept a bunch. We made cookies! Caught 2 mice, reckon we'll see more when the heat kicks on. I hates them meeces to pieces! Monday night I covered for Moonie and made good money on a Monday night. I love the O'Debra Twin's open-mic! I even got in on the fun. I do it again next Monday cuz I'm heading to VEGAS! (see upcoming shows)
This Saturday is Dauch-tober fest! Hundreds of wiener dogs invade Washington Square park! Cristin's mom is joining us for this blessed event! I promise lots of pics!
Keep the faith!

As a National Speech Champion I can tell you Kerry won this debate HANDS DOWN! Bush was poorly prepared (shocking, if you think about who handles him) and was "er, uh, well". Bush is a terrible public speaker and way too cocky considering how many soldiers have died after MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! Kerry had facts that even Bush seemed unaware of. Plus, how many more billions of dollars do we have to pour into another country when America has no health care plan, Florida is about to fall off the map and the mimimum wage is a joke? Let's get out of Iraq. Get out and start helping kids get a decent education. Stop urban violence. Stop poverty. Most of the free world thinks America is a big asshole. Is this what we want? Kerry might not be the messiah but I have to believe he a step in a more sane America. And when he wins, I promise to give him the business when he fucks up!
