Not much to report this past week. Stayed home on Monday and worked on my grant application then our Astoria neighbors Ed and Jeannie called us up for dinner! All you can eat sushi! Cristin ate 9 pounds worth! We then got to go grocery shopping at a HUGE Pathmark supermarket. I finally got one of those spinning Dawn brushes! Plus I finally found a store that sells Hostess Ding Dongs! Cristin says Hostess just filed for bankruptcy. Is that true? Anyway we spent like $100! Not so shocking for those of you with cars and access to huge supermarkets I'm sure. I stayed up to watch Return of the Jedi on DVD. The circle is complete!
Tuesday- Worked at the club. It has been decided that I will now host a late night show every Tuesday. We'll see how that goes.
Wednesday- Went out for new comics and watched the season premiere of America's Top Model and Law and Order and played Scrabble.
Thursday- I trained Leticia behind the bar and got interviewed for AM magazine in which I will be one of the BEST BARTENDERS OF NYC! I'll post the article when it shows up next month.
Friday- Big fun at the Bowery! Last night of Jennifer Blowdryer's play and a host of cool bands instead of crappy hip-hop for a change and I end up with one of the biggest tip-outs of 2004! Hooray! Also, a very cool Icee Bear statue arrived in the mail! He loves frozen drinks!
Saturday- So tired! Went on a big, long walk with Cristin and discovered all new parks and stuff in our own neighborhood then had a swell dinner! What a sweet day! Not as sweet as the cleaning power of the Dawn spinning brush but sweet none-the-less! Watched Mary Poppins and played Scrabble.
It was a supercalifragilisticexpialidocious weekend!

Peek at the Week
After catching up with snoo about her adventures in screenwriting in the Hamptons on Sunday and Monday, it all got bad on Tuesday when an unexpected death in the community caught us all off-guard. I got a rude awakening on Tuesday morning and had to make phone calls and have lunch with Cristin to sort everything out. I had to work Tuesday night as usual. Of course the first show was a book release for an author who had recently died! Yikes! Quite a depressing day and night! I managed to keep my cool and actually had a good night (business-wise) behind the bar. Wednesday was the 2 year anniversary of the BPC. Lots of people showed up including John S. Hall, Maggie Estep, Eric Bogosian and the Hungry March Band. I got to host the last, less-star-studded second half of the evening. Did I mention there was free beer? Lordy, things got silly! Still, it was great to see all of the staff and a lot of the cool people that make the Bowery Poetry Club such a great space to work and create! I was beaming with employee pride! Thursday I had to work again. A pretty hum-drum Urbana but the 3rd Party monthly hip-hop show was HUGE! I was busy all night and made a lot of tips. Enought that I asked Moonshine if he wouldn't mind taking half my shift on Friday since he had to be there to do White Trash Debutante. He was cool with it and I got to come home early and spend some much needed QT with my gal. Such a crazy week and we hadn't really got to spend much time together. Saturday was rainy from Ivan still we strolled. I scored a copy of the Star Wars Trilogy DVD's and Cristin let me watch one. I am now watching Empire. These discs look amazing! My folks continue to hit the open road. Couldn't have timed that better! I just hope thier new place in Florida is intact. Talked to my lil' bro and found out I'm gonna have a niece! Nice! It was a beautiful sunny Sunday. I went to a comic book convention and then came home and went down by the river with Cristin, then dinner at Neptune. It was a great weekend despite all the crazy-sadness around us. Take care of yourselves and those you have around you! Life is good!

Shappy Weekly
Tuesday-The slowest night in the history of the BPC. I go out with the staff and go home just as the flooding rains of Frances flood NYC's subways which makes snoo 40 minutes late for work.
Wednesday- I have Chinese take-out with snoo then I head to the Knitting Factory for Brook Pridemore's record release party. Brook plays with a band behind him live and on the CD. It sounds awesome! I got to hang out with comedian Lewis Black who was great to kibbitz with. I gave him a copy of Little Book of Ass. He might help me with a project I'm working on.
Thursday-First Urbana of the season. Lots of new people reading. It's not the same without Cristin there. One of the guys from the Green Mill house band played after. Then the crew for White Trash Debutante came in and I did theatre warm-ups with them! Snoo left for the Hamptons.
Friday- The drunks showed up early at the club! I can't deal with drunks while the sun's still up! It was a long night. The hip-hop show was crappy as always. At least it's gone for a few weeks.
Saturday- Had to get up after less than 6 hours of sleep to go back to the club for an employee meeting at 2! Got to see the tape of all of us at the BPC on the Howard Stern show! Check out for reruns on E! all this week.
You can see me for a micro-second. I go back home and have my own 9/11 memorial. I read Art Spiegelman's IN THE SHADOW OF NO TOWERS. I watch THE GUYS and 2 specials on PBS. It all makes me more and more angry at the powers that be and their exploitation of that dark day. A phone call to snoo makes me feel better!
Sunday- Snoo came home early! She was tuckered out and took several naps, but we caught up eating a nice sushi dinner. I got 3 orders for books!
Also, I got a DVD of the Slam America bus tour called BUSLOAD OF POETS check for it on poetryslam.com!
Today I typed up a bunch of poems for the Bowery Bartenders book Bob is putting together. I watched Star Trek 2 and made my famous veggie soup! Be sure to drop by the BPC Wednesday for our 2 year anniversary.
Lots of stars! Including ME!

Weekly Update!
Tuesday-Interesting panel discussion from on how librarians are protesting the Patriot Act at the BPC. What was suppossed to be an all night music marathon turned out more like an open-mic. Which was fine and fun not a lot of protesters showed up because it was the big arrest day. So many people just rounded up like cattle. Many of them innocent bystanders. I leave at 5 am.
Wednesday-First night home after cat-sitting. We have dinner at Neptune to celebrate Cristin's good news. She's been invited to participate in a fancy-pants screenwriting conference in the Hamptons! Me? I get a cool book from my host in Vegas on nerd history plus I get a cool book on vintage lunchboxes that I ordered.
Thursday-The Slam Bush Slam is the first Urbana of the season brought to you by the League of Pissed Off Voters. Big crowd. At 10:00 pm Zero Boy had a awesome RNC wrap-up show with William Shakespeare and the Big Red Bastard and all sorts of funny faves. It was also my last night with my German pal Rhinehardt. He bar-backed with me and we made all kinds of cash. A marching band from Seattle got released from the prison pier and came by the club and kept us there til 5 am. Thank god it's all over!
Friday-Monday- Went up to the Jersey Shore with Cristin to her folk's house. I finally found Jim Hanley's Comic Universe and got some books for the trip. Met up with snoo and had a lovely train ride. Cristin's bro picked us up and then his car died in front of a bail bonds in Trenton (where 4 murders transpired the night before) Luckily, the police station was across the street. Finally, Cristin's dad picked us up after hours of sputtering car trouble. A de-lish late supper which included homemade clam chowder! Next day me and the gals went to an outlet mall. Snoo got all kinds of cute clothes for her fancy-pants weekend. I got some x-mas shopping done early. We grilled out that night which was awesome. Sunday we had crabs and clams and took a boat ride. Cristin got some driving practice in. Today we went grocery shopping and watched movies. Back to the BPC grind tomorrow. Hope you had a cool weekend as well!
