SHAPPY'S ONLINE DIARY:
Friday, July 30, 2004
We had the big fund-raiser for the Urbana team last night. It was very "fresh". We had a cupcake eating contest and chubby bunny and karoke and all types of crazy shit. Cristin was the super-cute MC and ref. I made out quite nice in tips. It's hot and muggy today and I have zero desire to go to work. I've been at the BPC every night (except Wed). So I am looking forward to a nice 3 days off and a week of cat-sitting a few blocks from the club! Of course the National Poetry Slam is next week so I'll be snoo-less for a while which sux. Everyone is buzzing about the DNC. I only got to see Edwards but my mom says Kerry blew her away! Mike Henry is going back to Texas today. I got interviewed on Tuesday for the movie. I think it came off very well!

Boy, I tried to post a couple of days ago and it got all f'd up. So let's do the old weekly round-up. Last time I posted was Monday when we got the new bookshelf which Cristin accuses me of loving more than her! It's just nice to have a place to put my lovlies (books). Anyhoo, had a very exciting week.

I forgot to tell you, I'm a blonde! Cristin came home with a home hair coloring kit and dyed me blonde! I am also rawking the faux hawk. Made pretty good money on Thursday and Friday. Went out on Saurday with Cristin's old friend Jenn and her mom and their new husbands and a silent pal from India. We ate across the street from the Seinfeld diner. I got the new Aqua Teen dvd early at Kim's video. Came home and watched 6th Sense. Cristin cried a lot. Once you get past the shock of the first viewing it's a really moving story. Can't wait for the Village to come out. Did some writing with Cristin and will do some more tommorrow. Got up early today to watch Meet the Press and Chris Matthews. It's all very entertaining during an election year. Man, Me and snoo got a lot of stuff done this weekend! So excited to perform at the Kerry benefit on Tuesday at the Living Room!

Wow! Is it me or is this summer just flying by? I don't mind at all, knowing that the Star Wars Trilogy is coming out on DVD in early September! Fly away summer! My quiz is generating some funny results. Sorry about the question where I ask you to name 2 shows when you can only name one! I'll do a new quiz soon I promise! Things are coo-coo crazy here in New Yawk. Drama, drama everywhere! I'm not one to publicly discuss others bid-ness so I won't, but it's a tad wacky out here I tells ya! Had a super busy night last night. I rightfully made some much needed tippage. I gave up my Tuesday shift next week to do the Kerry benefit. No biggie, this past Tuesday I only made $20 in tips! Which is what I pay to take a taxi home! Seems Mike Henry is staying at our place for all of next week. The Shaptowicz home for wayward poets. Got an offer to do a book festival in Las Vegas. I think we're gonna do it. For you comics fans out there, I highly suggest you go out and get the new EIGHTBALL by Dan Clowes (Ghost World). Very cool and disturbing stuff as always. Pam Anderson and Russel Simmons are asking me to boycott KFC! I don't think I'm strong enough to do it!

Thursday- A fine night of crazy Russian funk at the BPC. I end up making good tips.
Wednesday, July 07, 2004 Something very spiritually fufilling about cleaning up the apartment. Mostly it makes me very happy to be making a little nest for me and and my tiny baby snoo-bird! I just got an invite to do a fundraiser for Kerry/Edwards from my Dayton pal David Poe. Morgan Taylor and his betrothed Rachel Loshack are playing as well. Apparently, Duncan Shiek is playing as well. It's Tuesday July 20 at the Living Room. (see upcoming shows). Looks like I will not be going to the National Poetry slam. I think I might have stated this earlier. Now it looks like I'll get to cat-sit by myself for a week. Cristin is giving the Atkins a whirl (mostly because it's not a heck of a lot different than the way she normally eats). I need to start thinking about some kind of workout/diet myself. Maybe I should start packing my own lunches. Or maybe I'll just eat candy! The Wonka Diet! posted by Shappy at 7:34 PM Monday, July 05, 2004 Cat-sitting was a enjoyable lark as always. Went to see Spider-Man 2 on Wednesday and had to wait around the block at 11pm on a Wednesday night! It was one of the best summer movies ever! Me and snoo cried 3 times! I can't wait to see it again. It has become one of the top grossing films of all times! Yet, I rarely see anyone actually reading comic books in public! Thursday was the grudge slam at the BPC. Cristin's mom and dad showed up and Mrs. A read a very sweet poem. I formed Team Funny and we had a blast. We weren't much of a spoiler but we gots lots of larfs! Urbana basically threw the slam for whatever BS reason. Austin won and rightfully so. They were full of energy and well polished. This could be their year! The next day was the annual poet's retreat at Taylor Mali's country estate. Played lots of Scrabble and Risk and had much food and drink. It was all filmed for the slam documentary. Minimal hamming it up for the cameras. It was great to just hang out with friends. Cristin decided to go and surprize her folks up at the shorehouse. Mike Henry and Christopher Lee are crashing here tonight and leaving tomorrow. We all had a nice meal at the Neptune then me and snoo took a nap and watched Air Force One in all of its dopey jingoistic stupidity! It's way too hot in NYC! posted by Shappy at 11:50 PM
