Wednesday, April 28, 2004 Sorry about that disturbing picture Cristin posted in which she erased her face. We got complaints the minute it went up! I assure you snoo looked bee-yoo-ti-full at the wedding! She looked like she was going to the oscars! I looked pretty sharp as well in my Hugo Boss suit! I promise I'll post some of the pics I dropped off today. I got a nice review from my bosses at the club yesterday which is nice. Had a decent night last night. Looks like we are in for a good summer at the club. I'm in the big mega-quasi-semi-finals tomorrow, wish me luck! posted by Shappy at 4:33 PM
Monday, April 26, 2004 Well the wedding went off just fine! It was all very traditional. The ceremony was very by-the-good-book. The alter boys wore sneakers. I learned all about the stations of the cross. I recieved my Lil Folks (early strips by Charles Schulz) before I got on the train so I had a good book of my own to read over the weekend. I had fun hanging out with Cristin's folks. Cristin was in the wedding so we had a lot of time to hang out. The reception was full of heavy food and the DJ was awful. He didn't have the Beatles but he did have 2 versions of the Electric Slide. ( a dance I have only seen at weddings) We spent the night at the Aptowicz's shore house had a de-lish veggie lasagna for brunch and me and the Aptowicz ladies headed for the outlet mall. I got a pair of shorts, a new carry-on bag and bought a new pair of Vans sneakers which prompted my gal to spring into action to get a pair for 1/2 off. I also found a bunch of obscure cartoon videos for 99 cents each. We took the bus home and ordered chinese food and watched "As Good as it Gets". Today, I had 2 weeks of unpacking and cleaning up to do. Thanks for the package Mom! posted by Shappy at 5:02 PM
Friday, April 23, 2004 Ooops! Gosh, golly has it been a week since I last posted? Well, tomorrow is Cristin's best friend's wedding. Taylor gave me a suit to wear. I worked Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday and took today off to rest up before all the wedding madness. Plus, I gotta get up early. Had a really great night last night at the club. I was in the semi-finals and came in dead last! How my people love me! I had to go first which is always a jinx. I had fun with it though and had a great time performing and that's what it's all about. I'm in the slam next week and if I get in the top four I get into finals. I'm watching Freaks and Geeks. Man, what a great show! Of course it was cancelled. I can tell Cristin is going to love it as well. Gotta fo polish my shoes! posted by Shappy at 7:14 PM
Friday, April 16, 2004 I took second in the slam last night which somehow qualfies me for the semi-finals next week! I do however have to go first since I didn't win a slam this quarter. This also puts me in the Mega Quasi Semi-finals the week after next. Which is the top 8 ranking poets battling it out for the other 4 spots in finals which is the week after that. If this all sounds complicated and confusing than "Welcome to the World of Slam Poetry"! Just know that I'll for sure be performing the next 2 Thursdays and could use some cheerleaders. In other news, we are enjoying some nice weather here in NYC and it seems me and snoo have to get back to Astoria to gather things for another week of city living. I'm anxious to see what showed up in the mail! Had another fun week at the club and made good money. Tonight is a benefit for Amnesty International! Also, my Austin doppleganger Mikey Henry is in town with his lovely wife, Soyna, so it looks like a Scrabble tournament is going down this weekend as well! Wednesday, April 14, 2004 My foot hurts! It was fine last night at work but when i got home it started getting all throbby to the point where I couldn't sleep! I walked around a bit today but it still hurt. I hope it's better tomorrow. Our cat-sitting duties have been extended to next week! Holy Moly! We have a big wedding to got to next week. Cristin's maid o' honor! I gotta get an outfit together. We got a couple of jackets last week. Picked up some comics and half-price easter candy! Saturday, April 10, 2004 I got back into the slam of things on Thursday and got 2nd place! Can you believe I got beat by a Kurt Cobain tribute poem? I should've done MY Kurt Cobain poem! I'm not sure if this latest venture earns me any points or not. I'd like to get into finals for shits and giggles. I'm really into improv-ing this year. Cristin had Friday off so she hung out with her nerd thugs Seth and Aaron Myers! They went ape-shit over my DVD/video collection and were still watching stuff when I got home at 3 AM! Friday I was surprized to find DJ Renegade hanging out at the BPC! It was cool to catch up with the old National Champ! He even read a piece at the Eileen Myles show! I then slammed again in the $100 slam! I'm pretty sure I got in the top 5 but only the top 3 got prizes! Oh well! I could've used that $100 cuz our midnight show never showed up and we were forced to close up shop around 1 AM. I came home and watched the disturbing GG Aliin film "Hated". I picked up the new Modest Mouse CD yesterday and me and the staff of the BPC all agreed it's one of the best records we've heard in a while. The weather is great today so I went walking around and got some cheap movies and magazines. Now I'm watching Kill Bill and waiting for snoo to get home! So much news!
First of all- I'm going to be an Uncle again! Chris and Katie are "in the family way"! No word on if it's a boy or girl yet. I think they're gonna let it be a surprise. Due date is November 6!
Looks like I'm out of the running for semi-finals at Bar 13. I think I'm out at Urbana as well. Too much math. I think if I slam and win I might get points. Who cares. I'll fight to go to New Mexico or Austin. St. Louis? feh.
Me and Crad hit the Big Apple con on Saturday. Crad inherhited a nearly complete run of Amazing Spider-Man. So he was filling in holes. I sort of go looking for lost treasures. I bought some Kamandi Last Boy on Earth but wasn't sure if I had them or not. I guess I should look over what I have. Me and Morgan agreed that we would never spend more than $10 for any single comic book. We also saw Joe Simon (co-creator of Captain America) and the guy who played Spawn.
Me and snoo saw Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. I loved it, snoo had problems with Jim Carrey's acting. I thought he was great. Then we had Indian food and I tipped the sitar player $2! I only hope that the rock band seated next to us followed my lead and tipped thier fellow musician! We still have 2 days of cat sitting to go!
Had a great week at the club. Fun shows and great tips! Plus it was great to walk to work all week! I saved over $50 in cab and train fare!
I got word me and snoo might have a college gig soon and an old comedy pal in Chicago is working on some TV project and wants to chat with me! Huzzah!
Life is good.
