GOD BLESS NY CABBIES!
Tuesday, January 27, 2004 Well, the news media has everyone in a froth about the BIG WINTER STORM heading our way. It's not like they're gonna cancel New York tomorrow. I have a rare Tuesday off and I gotta tell ya, I prefer Wednesday cuz I usually walk to the comic shop and pick up the new books and scoot around the wonder that is Astoria. I woke up with snoo this morning and stayed up which is pretty rare for me. Of course I crashed around 12:30 and woke up in time for Oprah. posted by Shappy at 5:41 PM Sunday, January 25, 2004 Man, I got slammed at the bar on Friday night! 12 hours on my feet really took it's toll. I was sooooo tired and my gout was acting up on top of being on my feet and I was a wreck by the end of the night! I came home and crashed for 9 hours! It was all worth it though as I made good tips and had some cash for the comic book convention on Saturday. I thought it would be good to walk around a bit to get the legs working! Turns out the convention was across from Penn Station so I got to pick Cristin up from her train ride back from Philly! The con was fun! The minute I walked in I got my picture taken with Darth Vader and 3 stormtroopers! That will so be on web page! I scored some really cool books. Magilla Gorilla #1 and Donald (Duck) and the Wheel. I paid $5 each but they are worth around $50-$70 each! The guy selling them had no clue! He was a "super-hero dealer" who had these from a recent sale. I also met David Caradine and the woman from Tron. There is a winter-chill warning here in NYC and you can feel your vital organs freezing inside you! I'm watching Comic Book The Movie directed by Mark Hamill and I gotta tell ya it's pretty bad but the extras and cameos are pretty cool. Plus it has all of Mark's cartoon voice actor buddies (Billy West, Tom Kenney, Gary Owens) I guess I can reccomend it to comic nerds. Oh yeah, I lost the Indy Slam on Thursday. My old team mate Celena Glenn is representing Urbana at the International World Poetry Slam which is pretty cool. I was pretty sure she'd win it. posted by Shappy at 2:10 AM Thursday, January 22, 2004 We've had some good shows at the club lately but the weather is really killing the crowds. Still, the crowds that are showing are having fun. I think when the weather is extreme it can be fun to go out. posted by Shappy at 2:24 AM Monday, January 19, 2004 My condolences to all the Eagles fans in my family and Cristin's family. I'm excited for John Edwards and our nerd thug pal Aaron who is working on his campaign. Good riddance to Gephardt! I'm not crazy about Kerry either. Don't count out the General quite yet! Of course this will all be forgotten when the idiot-in-chief makes his sorry State of the Union address tomorrow night. I wish I didn't have to work so I could see it. It's great fodder for poetry and such! This Thursday is the big slam to determine who is going to represent Urbana at the Individual World Poetry Slam in March. Taylor Mali wants it bad! I have a few tricks up my sleeve. Should be a fun night of slamming regardless. Certainly the toughest slam I've been in for a long time! Snoo and I had a nice weekend. Her old roomie Kim was in from Australia and just got engaged! I was forced to ooh and aah over the ring. I'm not a jewelry expert-it looked nice! Cristin had a gig in Tarrytown and her brother Kevin came along and then we stayed in New Haven and took a train home. It was all snowy so the train ride was very scenic plus I love Grand Central Station! It was nice to have snoo home on a Monday. We had a nice meal at Neptune and made Twosnoo's Pumpkin Chili! My mom got her birthday bouquet and loved it! We finally got snoo's printer up and running which was a big victory for two non-tech nerds! Also, I've been reading a great book on Baby Boomer Comics and found some cool books to look for at the comic convention this weekend. Also, I scored some nice vintage McDonald's glasses on eBay and they arrived in great shape! posted by Shappy at 11:56 PM

Here's new pictures of my nephew, Luke! And that's mine own brother holding him!
Wednesday, January 14, 2004 Happy Birthday MOM! Of course I'm 2 days late but the seniment is genuine! You're my fave Golden Buckeye! Keep your eyes peeled on Friday! Tee-hee! posted by Shappy at 6:38 PM Tuesday, January 13, 2004 Sometimes I feel like Burgess Meredith in that episode of the Twilight Zone who hoardes books and then breaks his glasses! I did a lot of tiding around the house today and most of it was moving around books and magazines. I buy comics almost every Wednesday like a good fanboy but they just keep piling up. I'll admit the ones that pile up are mostly the impulse buys. Or stuff that I thought would be good but turned out kinda crappy. Serves me right for reading Wizard magazine. Still, I feel like I should just sit and read more often. Also, I need to write more. Which I am now gonna do. posted by Shappy at 12:27 AM
