UPDATE, YOU FOOL!
Yes, I have been lax in my journaling duties! Here's all the skinny about Chicago and stuff.
The gig went well at Amherst College 2 Fridays back. Had a full house and sat through 4 HOURS of poetry! I drove down with Ed Garcia (whatta pal) and his beh, Jeannie. Guy, Fish and Helen Yum all came along. Danny Solis, Dennis Kim, Bonafide and Kevin Koval were there. It was nice to be among such talented folk. After we all went to Denny's. I had chicken-fried steak!
Then it was on to Chicago the next day. Krystal picked me up and we got right to thrift shopping. (Krystal has an on-line book biz) I went out with my old boss at Chicago Comics, Eric Thornton and his wife Kim for live Karaoke! I sang War Pigs in full Jack Black style.
Sunday we saw Derrick Brown's band John Wilkes Kissing Booth and went to Club Foot where I saw a bunch of old punk pals with Dave Awl from the Neo-Futurists DJ-ing! Yow!
Monday I featured at Mental Graffitti in it's new location. . .a burrito joint! Then off to Rainbo for photo booth fun! Meanwhile, Cristin's show premieres at the Sydney Opera House!
Tuesday I traveled to Normal, IL to feature at Joel Chamara's kooky series. Big Poppa E, Hilary Thomas and Matthew John Connelly were there to cheer me on. I felt like the old man as my dated pop culture references flew over the heads of 18-23 year old college students! Krystal says, "These kids might have actually LIKED Jar-Jar Binks!" Ouch!
Wednesday was the big show at the Guild Complex with the Polka-holics! What a blast performing with polka music behind me! My old pal Greg Gilliam opened. It was cool to see him.
Also in attendance-Katherine Zwick, Tim Cook and Morris Stegosaurus. We all went for drinks after. Big Ups to Robert Karimi for putting the whole thing together. It was awesome! I then ran into Shag and Thax Douglas for a last hurrah before I split town.
Got back in NYC and went right to work at the BPC. JWKB played the club on Thursday. Friday was busy and Saturday I got to relax here at the cat-sitting apartment with all the amenities (TiVo!). In fact that's where I am now! I 'm cat sitting again! I'm also all packed for LA! I meet Cristin in Hollywood on Sunday! Our hotel is by the Kodak Theatre! Oscar-mania!

Sunday, October 12, 2003 Yet another snoo-less week has gone by! She's doing great outback! Me? I put my back out! On Monday I went to see Daphne Gottlieb perform at Bar 13 and read from Suzanne Sommers book of poetry-TOUCH ME! Then off to the BPC for the O'Debra's open-mic. I sang a song/review of CABIN FEVER and when I got back to my stool I guess I sat down too hard and the stool tipped over and I bruised my backbone! ouch! Don't worry, Cristin has already nagged me about it so everything's fine! Tuesday was another great Karoke + Poetry = fun and Dawn managed and we ordered ot Indian food and then Pizza later! Wednesday I didn't do much of anything but Bob fired luckydave and Laurel which was a real shocker! Thursday was Urbana with Daphne and I got to meet the creator of Hothead Paisan! Then Friday was a real slow night at the club and Saturday I stayed in and taped the Justin Timberlake SNL for snoo's return. I have the next few days off and then I have a gig at Amherst College and then I'm off to Chicago for some shows! Sunday, October 05, 2003 My god! What an ass-kicking week I've had. Monday was Bar 13 for Taylor Mali's feature and I slammed with a new poem. Then went over to the club for open-mic madness. Tuesday I worked a Poertry/drag show and met a guy who lives 5 doors down and hosts karoke down the street in Astoria's only gay bar! Wednesday was I worked a Soft Skull reading (I'll be at thier Shockwave store with Hal Sirowitz next Sunday) and then my old boss Veronica from Shakespeare and CO. came in! I gave her my new book. Thursday was Urbana with all the Austin folx. Big Poppa E and Hilary Thomas stayed at my place whilst I slept and slept! Friday was Rick Shapiro (comedian from Pootie Tang!) and a long ass African showcase. I slept all day on Saturday and most of Sunday. Gotta obey the body! Normally, I don't work so many nights in a row. And without snoo around it's hard to sleep! She's doing great by the way! I'll update y'all tomorrow on her trip thus far! posted by Shappy at 7:48 PM
