Monday, June 30, 2003 Okay, Blogger has re-formatted everything and I don't like it! I wrote a post and then it disappeared! Me hate computing machines! So, anyway, yesterday was the big gay parade. I'm always surprized how huge it is! (insert tasteless joke here) It just goes on forever! Which is cool.Tons of fab drag queens and tacky floats. In other snews, Cristin finished her latest screenplay yesterday. It's super-clever and funny, just like her! I tried to read it while watching a 2-hour documentary on the history of comic books on the History Channel. Not the best idea for a nerd like me. The documentary was really thorough! Must see TV for comicyyy geeks! Speaking of comic geeks, I got to have a drink with Sam Henderson before he left for LA. I finally got him a Spoken Nerd and CD. I then went to the club to cameo as Principal Dick Shappy at Moonie's white trash prom. I also picked up some videos yesterday all were pretty much of the misunderstood monster/ giant ape variety. Today is just chillin'. Getting some acts together for my Shappy Birthday show this Wednesday. I hope StationWagon says yes! Saturday, June 28, 2003 Yesterday was an embarassment of riches! So much good stuff came in the mail! I got my new Atari 2600 console. Now I can play all my fave games for more than 5 minutes! Plus you can get old cartridges for 75 cents on half.com! I also got Pinkerton by Weezer, 24 hour Party People, Time Bandits and Ernie sent us Finding Nemo! RAWK! I also got the new Wizard magazine that proports to name the 50 greatest comic book movies of all time. They rank X2 as #1 and while I agree it kicked ass, I'll always have a soft spot for Superman 2. I just love quoting General Zod! Thursday I made great tips and last night was a disaster. It matters not for Cristin and I are cat sitting in a sweet air conditioned apartment watching cable and writing and reading and stuff. The weather has been muggy the last couple of days, today is nice. I am going to be in Moonie's Spooky Trailer tomorrow at the club. Also I am reviewing my stock portfolio and watching my investments on-line.(that last line was for Cristin's mom posted by Shappy at 4:58 PM
Thursday, June 26, 2003 Did I mention how much Alexis O'Hara RULES? She was also at the retreat and what a treat to spend some QT with Canada's greatest natural resource. She was fresh from some all-girl revue where she performed magic tricks. She still had some flash paper left and was doing the old flaming hand bit. Old flaming hand sounds like some kinda sex slang. Speaking of sex slang, everyone seems to think the time is ripe for another edition of the Tattler this Nationals since it started in Chicago to begin with. Cristin and I tried a new restraunt in Astoria last night. It was delish, delish a tasty dish! I can't remember the name of the joint. I think it was Arthur's Cove or something. We had mushrooms stuffed with escargo! Cristin had shrimp, I had chicken parmigean. Tonight's the queer slam at Urbana. I have yet another Shappy Birthday show next week. Still need to figure out how to get to Nationals. I got an offer to drive but I think flying is the way to go. posted by Shappy at 2:42 PM
Monday, June 23, 2003 Back from the poet's retreat today. Had a relaxing weekend despite all the rain. Lots of Scrabble and celebrity password ( a name game ) steak, snax and beer. Got home in time to head over to the Mocca comics convention thingy and finally got to meet Sam Henderson! Picked up a lot of indie comix and got to hang with Thornton from Chicago Comics and say hello to Christine from Last Gasp. Morris is staying over one more night cuz he has a flight out of La Guardia tomorrow. I'm gonna hang with Thornton tommorow. Cristin tells me she wants to see more horror flicks so maybe I'll hit the video bargain bin tomorrow. posted by Shappy at 1:23 AM
Friday, June 20, 2003 This will be my last chance to post anything for the next couple o' days so I thought I'd make the best of it. Cristin is back! We had a nice evening together before everyone poured into town. As I suspected, the gig at CBGB's was lame and not worth not being home to my lady back proper. On the plus side, RHC lent me some cool video tapes. I have no idea when I'll get to watch them all. Krystal,Eitan, Joel, Jeff and Toni all made it safely to NYC. Morris has been here since Monday. Urbana won the grudge slam and it all boils down to my sweetie rocking it improv style that started them off on a fun tip. I got to slam for Austin which is only right and natural, being an honorary Austin poet. We came in 2nd. Toni from Austin got the highest score of the night! Following the slam was Celena Glenn's Fascist Fashion show which was awe inspiring especially cuz Cristin was a model in the fashion show. Then Jason Muhlberger spit some rhymes with Beau Sia and jet blue-lagged Cristin was up there rapping as well! I marvel at my snoo's energy reserves! She's the coolest! Also, for once I have no worries at the club schedule-wise as Moonshine finally returned and took all the shifts that needed to be filled. I leave for a relaxing weekend tommorow with friends and couldn't be happier about it. Actually, I would be much happier if Cristin came along but, I respect her need to catch up on lost time for all of her various projects. We'll have lots of time to catch up next week and it's only fair that she gets a little alone time after her week-long vacation/work week. I suspect she'll sleep a lot and take her sweet snoo time doing whatever she wants to do. Besides, I'm only gone til Sunday afternoon and then we'll probally catch up with some out of town friends. I also must take this oppurtunity to thank all of the kind folks on the west coast who let my best gal sleep on their couches and such and giving her cool stuff and food and such. The performance poetry community are the best folk on earth! I love everyone who bothers reading this dumbed down journal of my daily poop! Wednesday, June 18, 2003 Blast this cursed weather! I have been battling a cold for the last few days, however, I have been winning. Cristin gets back tonight. Chicago poets arrive Thursday. I have some dumb poetry show at CBGB's tonight. Too much going on. A couple of night's ago I met the actress who played the babysitter in Amityville Horror! Does anyone remember that scene? Monday, June 16, 2003 Day off? Not for me! Thought someone else had Moonshine's shift. Nope. So guess who had to work for the fifth night in a row? UGH. It turned out to be a pretty busy night and I finally made some okay tips. Now I have to go back to the club tonight for a reading! Oh well, snoo gets home soon and then a bunch of people are coming in to town for the Annual grudge slam and poet's retreat. Then a comic convention on Sunday with my old boss from Chicago Comics! Saturday, June 14, 2003 Since when do I live in Seattle? It has been pouring rain almost every night for like 3 weeks! Even as we speak, NYC is feeling the wrath of a particularly nasty thunderstorm. Really loud thunder! And I've got no one to hold! Sadness! Looks like the hole in the wall is going to be fixed on Monday. Last night sucked ass at the bar. There must have been a two and a half hour stretch where there was literally NO ONE in the bar. Eh, Friday the 13th! And tonight I have to sit through 2 plays! Honest to God, PLAYS! All I really want to do is sit around, read comics and watch dumb movies. I think my muse has left the building. I haven't written poetry in a long time. Friday, June 13, 2003 Hey, gang! Tonight was the multiple partner slam and it was fun to be on the other side of the bar for a change. However, the register behind the bar decided to not work at some point after the open mic (that I hosted) and Laurel had to write everything down as she went-not cool on a busy night. So Bob got us a new register today. Me and Brook Pridemore rocked the slam last night. We did an old duet that me and Cristin didn't quite pull off last year and then much to our horror made it to the second round! Having nothing prepared we did a jam about stupid American babies using Big George and RAC's actual baby! Ups to Lordrexfear for beatboxing behind the whole debacle. Talked to Cristin last night, she's getting lots of interviewing done for the oral history project she's working on. Thursday, June 12, 2003 Sorry I haven't posted in a while. Couldn't log on to blogger last night. Well, Cristin is in California even as we speak. We had a banana split last night and then she got in a cab and drove away just like in the movin' pictures. I have a rare Thursday night off yet I still have to go the club! Seems I'm the only Urbana-ite in town tonight. Plus it's the multiple partner slam so I'm doing something with Brook Pridemore for the slam. I've tried to stock up on nerd provisions for my week o' lonliness. I have some new videos to watch and a stack of comics to read and some writing to do for a comic book fan fiction website my pals started. Picked up the Radiohead on Tuesday. Haven't listened to it enough to absorb it yet. We still have a huge hole in our wall. We were attacked by a giant bug on Sunday. Cristin's heart is STILL pounding! posted by Shappy at 2:24 PM

Friday, June 06, 2003 Finally, it has stopped raining in NYC! It has been raining for like two weeks! It killed my rawk show on Wednesday. Great line-up / crappy crowd. Although, the kids who did show up saw a great show. There was a slight possibility that Lauren Hill and Arrested Development were going to show up but the rain kept them away. Still, I got an invite to do some gigs with my old Chicago crony Neal Pollack. I am happy to annouce that Brook Pridemore will be joining the staff of the BPC as a part-time bartender. Always good to have more Kalamazoo representation! Looking forward to a mellow weekend. Plan to see FINDING NEMO and dining with Cristin. Her bro, Kevin, is visiting this weekend as well. He and his best gal, Katie are getting hitched this August. Yet another fun wedding! Mom and Dad just got back from visiting Chris and Katie and baby Luke. Wednesday, June 04, 2003 Boy, oh man, oh howdy! Me can be so silly sometimes! Too many drinks on Monday turned me into some kind of heckling jerkwad! I got home somehow and fell out of bed! Yikes! I've cleaned up my act though! Tonight's the monthly rawk show at the BPC. Soft Skull Press is doing an event there tonight as well so it should be a good crowd! Sunday, June 01, 2003 Friday was okay. This cat, Andy Friedman had a swell reading at the club and I made some decent tips. Cristin and I got to cat-sit in the super nice apartment. One that is mice free. Ernie sent us a copy of the wedding on video and Cristin and I are amazed how in sync our dancing was! Picked up MC Honky a new record with art work by Ivan Brunetti.
