O NERD POETS, WHERE ART THOU?
Wednesday, May 28, 2003 My worst fears are confirmed. The hole in the wall has become an open invitation to mice to come on in and munch on whatever they please! Cristin has already written out a rent check(she also thinks the "mice" are cute) I won't be writing mine until the GAPING HOLE in our apartment is closed! I mean, there is a stinky hole constantly dropping shit and mice into our apartment! I made shit for tips tonight but did get Corn Mo to open for King Missile next Wednesday. I grow weary of booking shows for the club. I would much rather come up with a concept and go from there. Cristin does her final bit for the Chamber Dance Company tomorrow. It will be fun to see my snoo's words being danced to! Thursday is the Nerd Slam. Please come to support! posted by Shappy at 3:30 AM Tuesday, May 27, 2003 I'm back from the coolest wedding I have ever attended! Ernie and Susan really did the whole thing with style. They handed out a mix CD of all their fave tunes with liner notes explaining why they chose each track. The programs were like little chap-books (what do expect from slam poets?) They took all thier photos before the wedding which was at 6pm which I think is a great start time. Most weddings start too early. Cristin and I read "Oh the Places You'll Go" and got rave reviews from the attendees. It was great to see everybody even if it was all too brief. Mike Henry was kind enought to shuttle me over to my fave shop in Austin "Hogwild". Best nostalgia shop in the Southwest! I got Cristin a bowler hat for the wedding (ladies were encouraged to wear hats) but ended up returning it for store credit cuz it was too small for her gigantic brain. Also scored a nice ceramic Grimace bank and hit a comic shop and got a cool mini-comic called Snakepit which is a comic strip a day about a Austin dude named Ben. Also got to see Matthew John Connelly, Big Poppa E, Hillary, Phil and his wife, Michelle, and met Ernie's brother Eric and his son Talon. I guess me and snoo really got down cuz her legs are all sore! Came back to crappy cold and rainy weather and then the landlord woke us up this morning to make a huge hole in our wall which is still here as I write this. God only knows what could come crawling out of there or when it will be fixed! Cristin and I took a walk today and the crazy lady who sells books on Astoria Blvd had a HR Pufinstuf video and Ewok Adventure video sitting on her table for $3 each! Could I possibly be the luckiest nerd in the world? Well, probally not as lucky as Ernie must feel lately! Can't wait to get back and do some gigs in Austin this fall! posted by Shappy at 2:17 AM Wednesday, May 21, 2003 Man, I loves me some White Castle! Everytime I take a cab home from work I drive by a White Castle and sigh cuz I really crave em from time to time. I used to buy em by the sack in Chicago. I'm not even sure where they are in NYC (except for the one I drive by-duh). So today I bought some frozen ones at the grocers and yum! I set up my Atari today because I finally got a NEW BIG TV on Sunday!!! It's really nice with digital picture and the price was right $89! So kicking it Old Skool Atari in the Man Den. My apologies to those who came out to watch X2 last night. I promise some night we'll do movie night! Watched some of the Animatrix today. It's super trippy. I am anxious to re-watch Matrix Reloaded. I really didn't HATE it as much as I let on. Just need to watch it with a critical eye. Still, there was some WHACK SHIT going on in that film. Guy Le Charles Gonzalez decided to step down as slammaster of Bar 13 to pursue poetic endeavors. Cheers, old bean! Maybe you could write some shit that could beat me in a slam! (I highly doubt it!) Looking forward to the big wedding! Also a shout out to Mom and Dad and Chris and Katie and Luke who are spending this weekend together! Wish I could be there, guys! posted by Shappy at 5:34 PM Tuesday, May 20, 2003 Well, I called him out and I defeated him. Guy Le Charles Gonzalez fell under my poetic sword. Props to Saylor Mali for insuring my victory. They handed out red and blue pills as I warbled a song about the Matrix. Lord, the crowd was tiny. May poetry draw crowds over the summer or I'm out of a job! posted by Shappy at 2:24 AM Sunday, May 18, 2003 Boy, that Matrix sequel was a train wreck! It's all blah blah blah fight scene blah blah blah. If you wait after the credits there is a trailer for part 3 which looks like it will be a little more exciting. Ernie says he will explain to me why it was a good film. Sorry I called so late on Thursday, buddy! Friday was dullsville at the club although I did get to serve drinks to one of the gals from Cibo Matto. Today Cristin and I decorated the apartment some more and had pizza and watched Nightmare on Elm Street which was really good and scarier than I remember. Watched some of tonight's dreadful SNL and then retreated to my Man Den to sort through old comics to display on my walls. Now I'm watching superman 2 and feeling all nostalgic. Cristin wasn't feeling so hot today. I think it's because she doesn't know how to relax. One more thing about the Matrix-I guess any movie that has the line "I love candy" can't be all that bad! posted by Shappy at 3:56 AM Wednesday, May 14, 2003 Only 10 days til Ernie and Susan's wedding! Boy, it'll be great to be back in Austin. The weather here has been sucky. Not as sucky as the weather in my brother's hometown of Colombus, Ohio where they got golf ball sized hail that nearly destroyed my sister-in-law's car! Cristin had lunch with her agent today who seems pretty set on selling one of Cristin's screenplays by September! Go Snoo! Me, I'm just putzing about the house, cleaning up and doing domestic duties. I gotta admit my life is pretty groovy. Now that all the slam nonsense is over I can kick back and enjoy my summer! posted by Shappy at 6:17 PM

JESUS CHRIST-I SUCK!!!
Monday, May 12, 2003 Tonight is the Bar 13 finals! 9 poets tried and true.Only four go to Nationals! Well, truth be told I'll go to Nationals even if I don't make a team. I mean' it's in Chicago for cryin' out loud! I'm feeling pretty calm about the whole thing. There is a laid back vibe about Bar 13 that I dig. I also feel I have nothing to lose. Just gonna have a beer and rip out some fine poetic performances. Speaking of fine poetic performances, Def Poetry on Broadway was nominated for a Tony today! Whoo-hoo! Had a fun weekend cat-sitting with Cristin. She made some major headway in her next screenplay. I watched a lot of cable TV and bought some really dumb looking shoes at K-Mart! Also, we went to Entertainment Outlet and scored Virgin Suicides, Broadcast News, Taxi Driver, Quadrophenia, Superman 2, History of the World Pt 1, Kentucky Fried Movie, Cradle Will Rock, Glengarry GlenRoss and Nightmare on Elm Street 1 all for under $40! I think it's more fun to go out and find movies and stuff than having cable sometimes. So the slam starts at 8 tonight! See you there? posted by Shappy at 3:00 PM Wednesday, May 07, 2003 Not much going on ovah heah. I basically have been vegging out the last couple of days watching movies and playing Scrabble with Cristin. Now I gotta work the next 3 nights. Tonight is Shappy Birthday rawk show. Drop by and hear some groovy tunes! posted by Shappy at 2:49 PM

Well, Urbana's Finals have come and gone... In the end, it was Postmidnight, Julian Curry, Shawn Randall and the only returning team member (and champion) Celena Glenn. An All Black Urbana Team: kick ass!! It shocked and awed us all.
