Monday, March 31, 2003 Saw a great act on Friday night called Corn Mo. Iron Maiden with accordian! I totally bought both his records! Must book him for me monthly rawk show at the BPC. Cristin and I were a couple of homebodies this weekend. Rented Auto Focus, which wasn't so great but the documentary about the death of Bob Crane was really interesting. Check out www.bobcrane.com it's crazy! This weekend me and Cristin go to Philly to pick up her BIG PRIZE! She's leaving Friday, I gotta work. Looks like I'll be able to squeeze in the Big Apple Comic Con on Saturday. Now I gotta write a sketch for Beau's whatever tomorrow. posted by Shappy at 3:19 PM

Member how I mentioned that Cristin found out she was in the top 5 of a screenwriting contest on the same day I found out I was being taped for Def Poetry?
Well, she won the friggin' contest!!!!
Big cash prize! Perhaps a giant novelty check! They fly her to LA! They make a video short of her film! We might meet Steve Guttenburg!
I'm so proud of my Snoo! We go to Philly next week for VIP treatment (well Cristin gets the VIP treatment, I'm just the dumb lunk on her arm). This can only mean bigger and better things for the two of us I think.
Also, Geoge Bush is a huge asshole.

Tuesday, March 25, 2003 Had an okay weekend despite the gout flaring up and Cristin got some kind of viral infection. Of course, I blame George Bush and his stupid war. Big ups to Micheal Moore for having the courage to speak his mind during a very boring oscars. I haven't seen it but 'CHICAGO' looks like a big garish piece of poop to me, then again I kinda liked 'Moulin Rouge' or however you spell that title of that garish piece of poop. Would you believe I might not be in the running to get into the slam finals of my home venue, Urbana? Whatever. I am, however, in the semis for Bar 13! Can Shappy penetrate the sincerity factor and make what is considered a "serious" team? I likes a challenge! I got a bad vibe about the Nationals in Chicago this year anyway. Lots of stupid ideas floating around. I helped organize the 1999 Nationals in Chicago, believe me ,it's going to be kooky and not in a fun way. Tuesday, March 18, 2003 Isn't this war bullshit getting on your nerves already? I mean, come on! Nobody I know wants to see it happen! It's so great that a President nobody VOTED FOR is providing us with a war that his dad started over 10 years ago, isn't it? I have never owned a car and I probally never will so gas prices have never mattered to me, EVER! Plus, living in NYC only makes me even more pissed off that all of this is going down. DO WE REALLY WANT TO PISS OFF THE SAME PEOPLE WHO RAN AIRPLANES INTO THE WTC EVEN MORE? Apparently, we do. Boy, thank you, U.S. government for really taking notice of how those of us who want to live in peace really feel. I am scared, but mostly, I am sad for what is to come. Because there are a lot of things I'd like to see and experience in the next few months, and years. I'd like to see one of Cristin's screenplays be made into a movie, I'd like to see myself on HBO and several other networks, I'd like to see all of my poetry pals get all of the success they want, I'd like to see the last chapter of the Lord of the Rings, Matrix and Star Wars trilogies, I'd like to see all of my friends get married and party with them when they do, I would like to see the Bowery Poetry Club celebrate it's 10th anniversary, but most importantly, I would like to hang out with my Mom and Dad, my Brother and his wife Katie and my sweetie Cristin for my nephew Luke's high school graduation and go home in a flying car. Monday, March 17, 2003 An entire weekend of digital cable, comic books and cat hair! Me and Cristin housesitted and watched an awesome cat named Gus this past weekend. We ordered out and played Scrabble with Dawn and Taylor on Saturday. Sunday Cristin hammered away at her screenplay while I watched bad cartoons on Boomerang and read comics!(and the NY Times and Entertainment Weekly just so you know I read "real things" as well) I love our new/old apartment, it's so much fun setting up a new place! Tonight Cristin battles Marty Mc Connell at Bar 13 and Morris Stegosaurus is in town! Always fun to see Morris in action! Now I'm off to buy long boxes! posted by Shappy at 1:51 PM
Friday, March 14, 2003 I would like to thank Cristin for doing all the cool links in my diary entries! For those of you wondering why some words are different colors, that means you can click on 'em and see what I'm yapping about! My mom just sent me a magazine clipping about the guy who runs one of my fave shops in Chicago, Uncle Fun! It's a good,old fashioned curiosity shoppe and toy store for all ages. I have personally spent hundreds of dollars there and reccomend you do the same! It's nerd heaven! Tonight I defended my Limerick Slam championship and lost. Oh well, can't win em all! Couldn't have lost to nicer nerd though. Congrats to my fellow poetry nerd Ed Garcia! ( And thanks for sharing the Bushmills!) I am now watching a 5 dvd set of old TV shows that I got on the cheap today. 42 episodes of Beverly Hilbillies, Lucy, Dick Van Dyke, Andy Griffith, Petticoat Junction and Ozzie & Harriet! Wednesday, March 12, 2003 A big Shappy Birthday to my pal and co-worker Moonshine Shorey! He's all of 22 today! We're all gonna have some ice cream at the club tonite! Picked up a Moe's Tavern today at Forbidden Planet with the gift certificate Cristin gave me for my birthday! Thanx, Snoo! I can't wait to set it up with Moe and Barney! Monday, March 10, 2003 Had a relaxing weekend. Was behind the bar on Friday and saw some great stuff. The guy who slept in Warhol's SLEEP John Giorno read. Turns out he's one of the innovators of the spoken word movement. He read some great stuff about burying William S. Burroughs. Then Ken Burns played all kinds of homemade instruments such as hockey stick, bike wheel, toothbrush and golfclub. It was amazing! Came home super late and watched a Buck Rogers episode Cline sent me for me b-day. I cleaned up the place a little and Cristin came home early from her brother Kevin's which was a nice surprize! She brought back some videos for me He-man and Herman & Catnip cartoons! HOORAY! I went and got the last bit of stuff from my old apartment and bought some videotapes at my fave used media shop! Alexis O' Hara is back in town tonight. She'll be Shaptowicz's second guest. Me and Snoo get to housesit this weekend in a ritzy Manhattan townhouse! posted by Shappy at 1:27 PM
Thursday, March 06, 2003 Well, the taping went good. Some might say "I rocked the Muthafuggin House!" All I ask is that you all think Shap-positive thoughts and that your cable ready friends might see me on Def Poetry this April! The birthday show was awesome thanks to a solid showing of BOOBYTRAP fans! I was really pleased at he turn-out and so was my boss who now wants me to book rock shows the first Wednesday of every month! I then had the pleasure of drinking with several west coast poets who will be invading the east coast this weekend. I can truly say my life is pretty awesome. Saturday, March 01, 2003 I'm home with Cristin watching The King of Comedy on DVD. It's one of the only movies where Robert DeNiro plays a nebbish nerd. It's great. Man, I spent all last night receiving birthday greetings from around the country. I've got such a swell group of pals. And I never thanked my mom for giving me a great b-day package. My mom is the best at gift packages! And I have another gift package from Ernie on its way too. I love my life.
