SHAPPY'S ONLINE DIARY:

Sunday, September 29, 2002

I just wanted to take this oppurtunity to wish my tiny baby snoo a happy 23 month anniversary! I loves ya, Snoo!
posted by Shappy at 11:57 PM

Hey all! This is Cristin a-writing because Shappy doesn't think that he doesn't have anything to write about!

But there is a ton of things going on in Shappy's life that he is too silly to write about: for instance, he's going to Chicago in a couple of weeks to perform for a college where the kids on the forsenic team perform his stuff in competition! I was going to go, but my funds are too short: sorry Joel and Krystal! I really wanted to!!

In other news, he's getting mad poetic play all over the NYC poetry scene, including a gig at westside rhyme this Sunday! He's got an in with the people who do the Simpson comic books and are looking for poets! He finally finally finally might have a head shot that he likes so he can get commerical work, let's hope!

And in big holiday news, Shap and I will be visiting his parents for the first time for this year's Thanksgiving! After two years of dating, I'm finally going to meet his rents and I am very nervous-excited about it!

Oh! And he and I will be at Bucknell University this Wednesday iffnya there and wanna say hi.

Oh, and one last thing: Shap has the ability to see what kind of words people use in search engines that lead them to his page. However, I think there are whole bunch of important words and phrases which I personally associate with Shappy that appear nowhere on this site, so here they are, in random order:

toys from the 70s, hidden candy, lidsville, beetle bailey anthologies, mile marker, snoopy vintage lunch boxes, smallville, mcdonalds collectable glassware, zines about snack food, mint in package simpson figurines, king buzzo dog psychic, commericals that involve talking dogs, commericals that involve talking chimpanzees, enormous floridian thrift stores, tiny baby snoo, chicago's hollywood diner, berkley's arnold's diner, vancouver's slickity jim's chat and chew, sir meows, sir plumps, little king sucky and hatred for list writing girlfriend!

C'est suffit! Now berate him on his message board to write more often! This is ridiculous!

I don't know what signifigance this has but it is odd! Snoo gets back in town tonight! I am helping out at the club for the BIG EVENT but will leave early to see my tiny baby! I can't wait to hear all about her LA trip! Sage Francis avany honkey is at Urbana 2-morrow, please to check it out, no?

Okay, I don't know what is going on with Blogger, so I apologize for the lack of postings. I wrote one a couple of days ago and have tried to post it like 5 times! Please don't take offense dear reader of my private thoughts! Hope fully this one and the other one will appear at the same time! A 241! So, last night was one of those nights that makes me glad I live in New Amsterdam! First, I scored tix to MR SHOW LIVE-HOORAY FOR AMERICA! It was awesome to see Bob and David live! It was pretty bare bones and only had 3 other cast members in it. There's more if you count video appearances. Plenty of new material as well. If this rolls to your town I highly reccomend it! If only to score an Indomindble Spirit T-shirt like I did! After that I visited Crad at Arlene Grocery to walk into an AC/DC cover band! WHOA! After that was a another metal band from Baltimore! I was headed home when I remembered that Surf Reality had it's open mic. I walked in to see some hack comedy and ended up winning a door prize! I should also mention that I got my friend Seth's newest ish of Americant which I read excluvisely on the subway cuz I think I looked pretty punk rawk reading a zine called Americant on a subway filled with 9/11 memorial posters! Snoo is in LA wheelin and dealin! I'll have her write an entry here when she gets back!

Cline just showed me how to look up the statistics of this web page and I must say I am stunned! 481 hits a day! That's redonkulous! The best part is someone found this page while searching the word "FAYGO" what the shit is that all about? Did I ever mention Faygo in this diary? Well, I have now! I don't think you can get Faygo in NYC. And what is all this revamping of Fanta all about? I haven't had much time to write on this page cuz I've been super busy planning and preparing for the Bowery Poetry Club's GRAND OPENING! Next Tuesday me and the team are opening for Eric Bogosian! What else? Cristin is gone to LA for the next week being a star. Big George Mc Kibbens is getting married to RAC a kick-ass poet from Long Beach. I wish them all the happiness in the world! I got a new cel phone. The old one was a pre-paid deal and was a huge rip-off. I sold a chap book off the web page! Dude-it is in the mail! Right now Ed Mabrey from Columbus is staying with me. He is from Dayton OH! SEE YOU....PLEEEEEEASE?!!?

Sorry I haven't posted in a while! September 11 was sad and weird. Me and Cristin went out to dinner and made the mistake of watching TV instead of movies. Oh well! Work has been good. I sang Karokee at Meow Mix on Tuesday night that was fun! Played Scrablle today with Cristin and Taylor's Scrabble crew. I was most impressive I must say! I could have won my second game if I had played COCKS instead of TOCKS! I'm a dope! Now I'm off to see Morgan Taylor's Rock Group!

Here's to good friends, tonight is kinda special. Quite a weekend! I hosted 2 shows, performed in 2 others and bartended 2 nights as well! Jason Pettus My old pal from Chicago dropped in to perform in 2 of mine at the BPC. I'm sure he'll give a detailed description at his web page www.ilikejason.com! Eric Thornton,my old boss at CHicago Comics also dropped by for a visit. He and his wife Kim walked from Chelsea to Battery Park! They then came by our drink tasting party. Afterwards we all went to this awesome lesbian bar called Meow Mix which happened to have an open-mic night! I read Infinite Darkness! YOW! I have officially quit the day job! I was going to work the next couple of weeks but they just hired someone else! I'm free from retail's shackles!

Well, the first Urbana of the season was last night. Jeffrey Mc Daniel was fuggin great! A lot of funky stuff in the open-mic including a musical 9-11 piece! I am dreading 9-11 in NYC. I kinda wanna stay inside and leave the TV off and play Scrabble with Cristin. But I believe she is working at the BPC which will have poets talking about 9-11 all day and night so it looks like I'll be there for at least some of it. I believe I am working at the bookstore that day as well. Tonight Beau Sia is throwing a little coctail party and I'm hosting the Regie and Shappy show by myself. I think I only have 2 acts tonight. I'm sure I can convince Beau and crew to do stuff. Also, my buddy Eric Thornton is coming for a brief visit! He was my old boss at Chicago Comics (see LINKS) Plus, Pettus is here! Criminy! Wot a weekend!

SHAPPY'S TOP 1O!

10- Mad Magazine- I was allowed to read this when I turned 11. I then went to the hospital and didn't get to eat my cake. I still read this mag to this day! Pick one up! It is still stupid and surprizingly radical!

9- Bad poetry- without it, you wouldn't recognize the good stuff. Plus- EVERYONE remembers the bad poems!

8- Budweiser-the King of Beers!

7- Utilizing your trivia!- It is truly satisfying being able to justify your wasted youth in front of the boob tube!

6- Getting shit for free!-Nuff said!

5- Finding a book or CD you wanted USED at a thrift store!

4- Finding $ in a pocket in something you haven't worn in a long time!

3- That tingly feeling you get when you know you are witnessing something truly great!

2- Seeing friends from your past and picking up where you left!

1- Being in love with the greatest gal in the world! (In my case, CRISTIN O'KEEFE APTOWICZ, who has an article in this month's BUST Magazine!)

This list is subject to change. (except for #1)

Well, I now have enough people quoting stuff from this journal to realize that people actually read it with alarming frequency! The past two nights I have been putting on the Regie and Shappy Show! The Friday show was sparsely attended buy still great. I had me pal Morgan Taylor (see LINKS) come andplay a set. I hadn't seen Crad in a while so it was nice to visit and hear him play. CR Avery is in town and will do the show next weekend as well! Saturday was a big crowd! I think a lot of folks were there to see Reg E Gaines but watched and dug our kooky vibe! Station Wagon played their synth-pop ditties, Moonshine read with Gary Glazner playing harmonica behind him. Regie Cabico did some of his stand-up stuff, I did a couple of numbers with the band and, most importantly, THE WORLD PREMIRE OF "BLACK SANTA" a short film starring Cristin as a drug addict, me as a time traveler and an evil Christmas ornament!(Big shout out to the Myers boys for making that happen!) After that I got slammed at the bar and made some decent money. One the members of the Detroit team ( who we tied for First Place with at Nationals) Mike Ellison, was there to perform in the Supreme poets show. Man, he really tore it up! The crowd loved him! I wish I had got to talk to him some more! Now I have the next 2 days to relax and enjoy the greatest city in the world with the greatest gal in the world-SNOO!
